Point Guard Situation

So, we all know we need a point guard badly right now. Trading is a probability, but there's not too many options that we can trade for. There aren't even many options to sign for the vet minimum, but I read DBD's post in the other thread how we're scouting D-League, and I remember I'd said that was the best place to find "diamonds in the rough." We could find guys like Quinn or Sessions ready to contribute, or old vets. I made a list of possible candidates for a 10-Day contract.

Veterans:

Kieth McLeod
Eddie Gill
Smush Parker
Mateen Cleaves

Younglings:

Will Conroy
Dominique Coleman
Tierre Brown
John Lucas III
Walker Russell
Coby Carl

Now, personally, I prefer a guy that has played in the NBA before, but I really don't mind signing one of the younglings. Me two top choices would be Will Conroy and John Lucas. I also really really wouldn't mind Smush Parker. There wouldn't be a lot of pressure on him as there was when he was starting for the Lakers, and he COULD contribute a lot because he does have some skill.

In order, my top 3.

Conroy
Lucas
Gill

Your opinion?

From the guys you're proposing I'd give McLeod a shot.

No needed to bring offense or high level playmaking, decent defender although suspect of losing a step.

I think he'd fill the spot correctly, ala Kevin Ollie or old Eric Snow

From your list Will Conroy might be a good choice, he's young and has played in the NBA before, he's in the d-league now and is doing pretty well.

I think the Suns though should look outside the box and get Jamont Gordon, I know he's a rookie pg but he has alot of potential and I can see him becomming a Monta Ellis type player. He went undrafted in the 2008 draft and was supposed to be a mid second rounder.

Gali, I'm worried about the defense too, but seriously, we have NO ONE that can run an offense other than Nash & Hill. I REALLY like Conroy. His defense is above average, AND he's a solid set up PG who can shoot the ball. Really wouldn't mind him..

From a cost perspective Conroy would be ideal.

Seriously, why do we need a PG? Either Hill or Matt can run the ball up the court when grandpa Nash is napping. AND we play so much better when Hill and Matt are in the rotation together.

Coby Carl is a PG? I thougth he was a SG.

I think with the list you gave, I would go only a 10=day contract for any of those names. McLeod sounds the best I gues.

Karl has shown signs he can play PG, but he just wasn't given a chance given the depth of the Laker bench.

Marbury
Dooling
Atkins
Marcus Williams
CBell
Tinsley
Bobby Jackson - THIS guy I'd want here

I like Dooling and Williams

I been campaigning for Bobby Jackson for a while now. I love what he brings to the game, experience, shot making and ball-handling. He would fit our team very well because he's a combo guard and we're a little thin in both back-court positions. Unfortunately, his contract is a little out of reach for us, unless we give up Barbs for him, which is a little too much imo. Maybe they can include a 2nd ?

I much rather have Marbury or Atkins compared to an untested youth. I kinda agree with what someone said above, I like Hill running the point because it allows Barnes to play along side of him.

Realistically, only 2 of those are options for us via trade, maybe 3. (Atkins, Williams, Bell).

We aren't trading for Tinsley, Sac isn't giving up Jackson, Nets aren't trading Dooling.

I'm all for signing Will Conroy for a 10 day contract and GIVING HIM AN OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY, or any of them for that matter. Whoever said that we don't need a true backup PG is kidding themselves. Yeah, Hill & Barnes work well together on the floor, but that's at the 3 and 2 respectively. If Hill is playing PG, we struggle to get a real play running because it just doesn't work, and its even worse defensively because no one knows who their man is...

Everytime Nash is on the bench, Barbs dumps every damn ball to Shaq (when he's on the court, if he isn't it's even worse), so do Barnes an Hill. We become terribly predictable, and the whole offense implodes.

We desperately need one, even more w/o Diaw here (he's getting some love from Cats board, btw)

O.Greeene? Where is he playing now? (surely a solid defender)

Notice I didn't say anything about LB, but said Matt OR Hill.

I heard this yesterday from Gambo and Ash. Not a bad look for a backup.
