I have a '62 VW bug. I love it dearly. I spend a lot of money on it. It is a blast to drive that car.

Unfortunately, it has only actually runs great about 1/4 (or less) of the time I've had it. It's finicky about the weather, the kind of oil and gas it has, and is constantly in need of a tuneup. I've replaced parts over the years - some because I wanted to upgrade and others because parts had worn out - but I find myself still joyous when it works and vaguely nihilistic about the entire affair when it's running badly.

You see where I'm going with this.

So I have a question for those who follow teams whose names don't begin and end with "S" (i.e., Suns & Spurs - no I don't follow the Spurs because I like them; I follow them because I f---ing hate them; 76ers don't count 'cos that's a "7"): Are all teams like this? Does EVERY team have these amazing highs and low, low, lows? The Clippers game was a great example: Give me the Suns that walked on the court and I'd put them to win against anybody in the league. Give me the Suns that walked off the floor and I hope the Lottery Gods smile upon the Suns.

Does every team scintillate with talent and potential every year, giving us these amazing glimpses at what could be, only to revert to the putter-sputter-pttffffffffffffff, just like my car?

In other words, would I be getting this much of an emotional beating - every year for decades - if I followed any other team?

sorry for youre car - imo the team exactly knows how to win and how to get off the gas and relax and
save theyre power for the next game. in our case they are saving theyre power for the playoffs.

Like OPer I am very disappointed with our consistency. Sounds like yall other 2 are saying that this inconsistency is intentional - I disagree. Its a problem with certain of our players, and it has cost us huge games, including playoff games, so it is definitely not saving up energy for when it matters. What our team needs to succeed in the postseason is confidence that we can beat any of the 29 teams in a 7 game series, and I'm sorry but you don't get that from playing a weak Clips team and seeing them almost overcome a huge deficit.

I've heard this every year except '04-05. And in this West, I'm not sure there's enough room for error to screw around in the regular season. Now yes we have some seriously old people in our lineup that will need rest - which is fine. And every team has some 'off' games. That's fine, too.

But with this team, it's either one or the other, and it's been that way for the majority of the decade. They're either kicking more ass than they know what to do with, or they're being chased off the court.

I used to think it was a side effect of the run-and-gun style: that much precision required fairly perfect tuning and when the tuning was off, it was off. But we don't do that as much any more so ... ?
