Hoopshype Rumor Monday, January 12

I know Nash trades have been proposed on here before, and there have been many debates concerning a possible deal, but I found this interesting. I just came across this on hoopshype.com and it caught my attention:

Toronto reportedly has been anxious to trade, but really has little of great value. Here's the deal and while bold, it could respond to both teams' desires. Nash, Leandro Barbosa and Robin Lopez for Jose Calderon, Andrea Bargnani, Anthony Parker and Jason Kopono and perhaps Jamario Moon to equalize salaries. Nash still has quite a bit left and would be hugely popular returning to Toronto. Barbosa can be a two guard scoring option while Lopez is a defensive big man to complement Bosh. The Suns get a point guard for the future and perimeter big man to complement Stoudemire, though they take on some contracts.

Personally, I think this deal is okay, but I believe we should receive at least a 1st round pick in addition to all this. What is everyone else thinking in regards to this deal? Sorry to beat a dead horse, but as long as Nash and Porter are here, there will be rumors such as these.

No. Calderon is not anywhere close to Nash. I'm a raptors fan, and this guy sucks worse on defense, AND he can't run. No thanks.

Include Bosh and I might be interested.

Sam Smith feeding you his trade ideas.

Definitely not a rumor when you create the idea for your article.

Yeah that seems like a solid trade, nothing that wow's one team to make it one sided but nonetheless it would be a good trade for the Suns and Raptors also.

Calderon is just about the worst transition point guard in the league, he does EVERYTHING in the half-court. The team started succeeding when it meshed Shaq and the running game together, not while playing exclusively slow ball. Toronto's 20th in the league in pace, mostly because Calderon never goes under the FT line extended on a break and never takes chances with risky passes except the occasional oop.

And then what else does the team get back? Anthony Parker would tidily replace Raja Bell except that his defense has gone south since the 06-07 season and noticeably since even last season. He still shoots exceptionally well from everywhere, but that doesn't really matter given Jason Richardson's abilities.

Bargnani is playing well the last 8 games, but where does he play? The 5 when Shaq's out? The 4 when Amare's out? If you get the Bargs of the last 8 games, then it's not a horrible trade in terms of talent received (of course it's still a terrible trade), but he's known for going on little bursts where his shot is falling and everything looks good. He appears to be rebounding well at the moment and his defense is much-improved this whole season, so there's that. He's a way better passer than Amare, too, so that's helpful.

Kapono is obviously a great shooter, though expensive, but that's it. Moon is a good rebounder and defender and not much else, though he's a great transition finisher.

But aside from all of that, there's no way Toronto pulls this.

Jose, Bargs, Parker and Kapono (and then maybe Moon on top of that) for Nash, Lopez and Barbosa?

Uh-uh, even the Raptors turn their heads at this one. We don't want Barbosa and then we're left without a small forward of any description (or playing Moon HEAVY minutes without any kind of even semi-legitimate backup).

So that's completely without sense. The Raptors get a scoring upgrade and a big-time playmaking upgrade but get another crappy combo guard (yay), some more cap flexibility in 2010 that they won't use to any great effect, and Robin Lopez.

This is a terrible trade for both teams.

No way that happens, especially now. Suns been on a little roll and trading pieces would just be insane.

I don't even see Barbosa getting traded anytime soon now.

Jdiddy with the nittygritty

To do a massive tinkering (any Nash deal is massive) is flat out suicide. It is imperative to keep this core together for the remainder of this yr, after that, the window will be closed and anything is possible...well, any thing but this outlined deal from this rumor generator.

No need to continue the domino-ish reactionary behavior to cover the front orfice's floundering attempts to get a decent back up for Nash

I might have done it earlier in the season when the Suns were playing like absolute ass and it looked like we were going to go to use Shaq as the play-maker permanently. But seeing how Porter has given the reigns to Nash more now, we really don't need this trade. Especially with our team looking like it's coming together nicely.

I'd like Moon here though. The guy is a great hustle player and can guard perimeter players.

--- I was all for getting Moon and Kapono earlier but now ... team is starting to gell and that trade would be an admission that the whole year is a write-off for both teams. Toronto's close to that but we're not anywhere near.
