Can anyone recommend a home builder that makes basements with the house. I know Arizona isn't big on basements but I heard some builders do them now but I can't find one on the internet.

Hmm, ya homes with basements are very rare here, there are some mostly downtown/university area but they are older homes. You said you want to build. My father knows some contractors but not sure what the deal is with basements. However if you need any kind of flooring, I can get that for you my father sells it.

I had a basement in Phoenix. It added 9 months onto the finalized construction schedule. That's 9 months more than planned.

You have to hammer through 10 feet of rock. Not that pansy soft rock. Hard desert ground rock. But it is awesome in the summer. If you're deep enough you wont even have to use the AC that often, just a nice strong fan.

I don't see why a builder would decline doing it, but its gonna cost you. One the hole is dug its just like building a regular house.

As WTFFTW said, the reason for the lack of basements is that costs a lot more -- you're making a hard stone quarry in your lot for several months.

I wonder if they sell the granite? Or it becomes yours?

First off, Im sorry your moving to Tucson.

Second off, there are home builders out there who do basements. Cost and time is a big reason why, and rock is not the problem unless you are doing this on the side of a mtn. Caliche is hard, but you can get it done. The walls on the other hand need to be very thick.
