He also emphasized his preference to remain with the Suns. Next season's final contract year is partially guaranteed but the Suns will pick up the full $13,125,000 salary.
General Manager Steve Kerr approached Nash about discussing a contract extension this summer. Nash wants to play through 2011-12.
"For how much I love this city, this organization and the fans here, not to mention working with the people I get to work with daily, it's great that they see value in me," Nash said. "It was nice for them to bring it up. I wasn't really thinking about it because I was concentrating on what we're doing.
"If things were different here or I wasn't really wanted or if they blew up the team, then 2010 would be interesting to be a free agent, much like I unexpectedly was when I came here. It's nice to be valued by a club that I love."
Denver coach George Karl said Nash remains a top-five point guard. In the fall, Karl questioned why the Suns would alter from what Nash does best.
"Nash seems to be more comfortable with the engine he has, whereas before he had some oil problems," Karl said. "He's back to pushing it."
