"Maybe it was because I was sick," said Suns coach Terry Porter, the former Pistons lead assistant who had to leave the floor for a spell in the first quarter because of the flu. "It made them feel good."
That strike anyone else as weird for a coach to say?

that does sound very weird for a coach to say but maybe he was just poking fun at a serious situation... you know?
cuz he knows talks about him being fired are out there and maybe he thinks he's not gonna lose his job so he's trying to make the situation media friendly and funny.
im sitting here at work in between classes and all i can think about is i do not want Amare traded!
i hope we dont trade him. honestly this group of guys can get it done just need to figure it out!

No, and this could have gone in the Piston/suns thread.

out of context it sounds strange, but i think if we watched the interview it might make sense?

--- I suppose it could but a day after the game, the thread is usually dead. And I thought it so odd and spoke volumes about Porter's relationship with the team, it deserved discussion.
The way I read it, it's about one step up from "They wish I was dead"
I really do feel for porter. By all accounts a decent guy who's just terribly wrong for this job and has no idea how to salvage things except let the team do what they want and try not to screw things up anymore than they are already.

-- Oh, I;'m sure it was said with a smile. Just seemed an odd joke to make.
