OT: Tyson Chandler traded to Thunder

Post#1 » by cold5 » Tue Feb 17, 2009 7:37 pm

Espn reports that The New Orleans Hornets and Oklahoma City Thunder have completed a deal that sends center Tyson Chandler to the Thunder, according to NBA front-office sources.

Chandler's Impact on Hornets

The Hornets are 10 games over .500 with Tyson Chandler and just a .500 team without him.

Trade Machine:
Chandler for Smith, Wilcox

With Without
W-L 21-11 9-9
PPG 95.1 95.8
Opp. PPG 91.8 95.4
Sources with knowledge of the trade parameters told ESPN.com that the deal was approved by the league office Tuesday afternoon, with the Hornets receiving forwards Joe Smith and Chris Wilcox in exchange for their best interior defender.

The deal has yet to be announced by the teams, but sources say that the Hornets will also receive the draft rights to Devon Hardin, who was selected No. 50 overall by the Thunder in the 2008 draft.
Good news. ESPN projects that the Hornets will now finish 43-39. This leaves us in prime position to take their spot in the playoffs.

This trades makes the Hornets a little more explosive offensively but makes them much weaker defensively. With the recent injuries to Bynum, tmac, Jason Terry and Oden do the fan still think that the Suns should trade one of their core players? We are only 3 games from being the 4th seed in the Western Conferance!! The Suns could easily go in a 7-10 winning streak and we as fans would be talking about our chances of possibility being in the WCF. I've posted before that I think that the Suns should start building now, but what the heck they should go for it!

thought, comments ?

I think this makes them weaker as a team. you never wanted to leave chandler because he was such a good athlete for a big man and would control the paint on both sides. I tihnk this will not help them at all and is a step backwards.

I just hopes this means Chandler's production goes up...

He's on my fantasy team.

OKC's team looks nice. I'm going to try and catch a few of their nationally televised games this second half.

The are not done salary dumping. Hornets will be forced to dump more over the next 2 years because state subsidies are drying up.

I agree eastside. I don't understand the grounds for this trade. Paul has to be upset that they traded one of their better defenders, and his favorite lob target. Wilcox might be able to create more offense for himself, but it's strange that they would mess with their chemistry like that unless they felt they can't win with the current squad.

This trade really helps us out because we can afford to lose some games now while readjusting to SSOL and Alvin Gentry. I posted this in tonights game thread too but, Also on the plus side, if the Hornets do fall out of the Playoff race then we will have more wiggle room to develope our bench for when it matters, rest our vets, and not worry so much about barely capturing 8th place. In my opinion its better to potentially lose some games and have a well rested team come post season, then to have every game be a must win. Thank you Hornets FO :)

Wilcox/Smith can do what Chandler was doing at half the cost...He hasn't looked nearly as hungry when he's played this year. I think he's got big time potential as a rebounder and shotblocker still, but hope the big contract hasn't made him relax...

Hmm rescinded trade. That's rare. Must be quite an awkward situation for Chandler and the Hornets FO.

It'll be like if Marion got traded because he was disgruntled at the trade deadline and he packed up and left, and a day later he's told the trade's been rescinded. That sure would screw up chemistry.
