Thinking about this off-season... there will be some attainable MLE talent out there.

RealGM doesn't show us having the MLE, but doesn't that refresh every year?

The Suns should go after Ramon Sessions, he would be great as the Suns pg as the future. He just had a tripple double the other day and his numbers are going up so he would probally be worth more than the MLE. Maybe the Suns can do a sign and trade with the Bucks, maybe trade Amare for Sessions, the albino guy and some draft picks. That's if the Suns stay in the run-n-gun system.

If the Suns decide to go in the defensive minded direction they should dump as much salary as they can and go after some defensive players like Paul Milsap, Trevor Ariza, etc.

--- Lots of "no thanks" type guys in that list. Of them -

Ron Artest
Trevor Ariza
Hakim Warrick (QO)
David Lee (QO)
Shawn Marion
Anthony Parker
Paul Milsap

--- and not many of those guys who would make a big difference. Ron Ron could add some toughness. Ariza is a solid young guy and the Lakers are not likely to afford him but I don't think we get him if he moves.
If we lose Barnes, and I hope we do, either Millsap or Lee would be nice though much more expensive. I doubt Shawn comes back here, but if everyone could smile and be friends, that wouldn't hurt. I'm a huge fan of Parker.
Millsap is going to get an offer from Utah we won't be able to beat.

But just supposing - add Marion, Artest and Parker and we have improved defense immeasurably.
BTW, I read a column/blog yesterday where the writer mentioned to Shawn money was going to be tight next year and how did Shawn feel about getting the MLE? Trix just stared blankly at him, like he was speaking Martian.

I said draft picks also, remember Amares value has gone down alot because of the economy, his injuries, etc.

His value in a trade has very little to do with the economy since his contract is pretty in-line with his talent level (your argument would work if you were talking about someone like Rashard Lewis). Since you also have to take back salary in a trade, the economy argument holds little water. The only relevance is his attitude, potential to leave after contract is up and injury issues.

His value for a contract extension is related to the economy however.

I think Artest would be a fantastic addition. If we have the MLE, throw it at him all day long.

I don't know if Artest comes here considering the field of MLE and above offers he gets this offseason.

Artest' salary this past season was at about $7.4 million. MLE is usually around $5-5.5 million. I can't imagine many teams willing to spend more than the MLE, that would mean the only differentiation would be the ability to contend.

I think the Suns could be players at the MLE.

I badly want Artest. It's hard to say what offers he's going to get because there can be chemistry issues with him. He had trouble contributing efficiently with Tmac this year. Still, I think he would fit fine with our offense while drastically improving our defense. He is shooting over 40% from 3 this year and has had some other comparable years. If he buys into the system he would get a ton of iso situations on the block where he can dominate.

He's probably worthy of 12-13 mil a year but he didn't get that after his great seasons in SAC so it's hard to say.
