Financial concerns?

I was talking to a friend today and he brought up a good point about this team. We have been talking about if this team should stay together, should they blow it up, or take their time and be methodical about it getting rid of salary and getting the right mix of players and picks. Now lets get away from the homerism that is in all of us fans who wants to point fingers at the owner, GM, coach players, weather, refs, the curse of the destination Phx team that brought our team down even more……..but I digress. Im kidding guys.

Anyways, the economy is something that no one has talked about as much to what will happen to this team. It might not be bad, or it might be really bad if it happens. But our wonderful owner, Robert Sarver is a banker. He also has a lot to do with real estate. Two of the biggest markets that have been hit by the major recession we are in. Let that soak in for a moment.

Now there is a long history of this with this organization. The colangelo’s never paid as much as Sarver has and the bottom line was always a concern. However, they made smarter moves and yes, some bad ones that set this organization bad. Not every move, pick or FA signing is going to be the right or work out the right way. However, it has been more evident with this new FO that money is an even bigger issue then in the past.

Now I know most do not care about the money side because we are fans and want to win. However, we don’t want them to pay certain players high salaries, kind of double standard, but we are fans right? There was that article that came out a few months back that stated our best friend Bob Sarver has lost an estimated 200+ million since he took ownership in the suns. But if good ol Bob is loosing money, he is in no way going to pay the lux tax…………..plus, if his investments and money making businesses in banking and real estate, he could be in a lot more trouble then we know of. Now he could have sold his bank, I can’t remember and has that money elsewhere, but it might not be good for this team going forward and rebuilding. Hey, he might even sale the organization…………I know, don’t hold your breath sarver haters, it would be a dream come true.

So with all of that, what is in store for this team going forward?? The suns could ride it out and try to move a player or two this off-season/trade deadline to get under the lux tax.

Money has always been the issue the past 5 years and now it might be even more evident and relevant in how this team rebuilds in the future.

Even the magic will look to get under the lux tax next year. So it is not just a Sarver thing, almost every owner wants to get under because the bottom line is important. Should it be and how do you think a orgnization builds a succesful team that is under the tax and is a contendar?

Sarver only owns 50%, there is an ownership team of 10 5% owners and Sarver. Not all of them are broke.

i dont think the others not being broke is the issue here. EVERYONE from the average joe's to the millionaires are worrying about where there money is going. i really dont know how these people do it but i would be the same way if i was in their position. people like shaq and vince carter making 20 mil and 16 mil a year respectively is ridiculous right now when people are losing jobs and cant afford to stay in their $150K house.

i really dont know if im even commenting on the topic but people like shaq and manny and VC and 20 mil not being enough money for 1 year. gimme a break

A lot of players in this FA class isn't going to get the contract that they want because of the economy. I honestly don't think Sarver has the money to sink into our current roster, there will be money saving moves and if that means our current teams gets blown up then that's that. Hopefully he has in mind who we should definitely invest money into and keep, otherwise we'd just be a losing ball club and he'd still be losing money.

How do you just "blow it up" under the current CBA? Gotta first find takers and then take salary back. Not as easy as it sounds.
