Grizzlies-Suns Prior Amare Trade Talks

Post#1 » by toucansma » Sat Apr 11, 2009 12:52 am

Paul Coro pointed this out. Suns offered Amare to the Grizzlies for:

Warrick, Rudy Gay, Mike Conley and a 1st round pick

If that trade happened, what would everyone think? I think the key would have been the 1st round draft pick (if it was this year). I am not high on Warrick, but that is a lot. I can see why the Grizz turned it down. On the other hand a 6-10 athletic power forward is hard to find. Who knows. Thoughts?

Suns asked for to much for Amare. I would re-consider it with Gasol, Gay, pick this summer. Dragic is better than Conley.

Just the fact that the Grizz had to have internal disagrements before rejecting the trade, shows how dumb the grizzlies are. The trade is somewhat reminiscent of the Garnett to Boston trade. But we all know Garnett > Amare.

Seriously no one outside of Boston can stand Garnett....

Griz coach had the right reason for not liking the deal. Amare needs a supporting cast you know?

Yeah, LIonel Hollins is right on the money. He didn't say anything negative about Stoudemire and knows he's a great power forward. But for sure if the depth starved Grizzlies gave up two starters and a probable top 6 pick they wouldn't be left with enough players to compete and Amare wouldn't have the surrounding cast he would need, and as Hollins points out, what's the use having a disgruntled star player?

Now if it was Gay and Conley plus next years draft pick for Amare and the Suns pick at least Memphis could fill in the holes.

I would've been happy with just Gay and this year's first. Also the cap relief, maybe even a trade exception to sign someone else. Not sure what Memphis' plans are now though. They could keep Mayo/Gay/Conley as their core and build around that.

You're right, it is likely to be revisited...Would you rather we take a look at this trade or move Amare to WAS for Jamison and the #2? I'm not suer it has even been talked about, but the prospect of adding Rubio to our future is very enticing.

I think the Suns would need to strongly consider this trade if it came up again. It's a 4 for one, but I would give up one or two of those players to grab Memphis pick this year. Maybe Gay, Warrick and this years pick for Amare. Grab DeRozan with the #6

Given that we are trying to get younger and rebuild I would rather take Rudy and the Memphis pick over Jamison and their pick. Rudy/Conley/pick for Amare/pick is fair in my mind.
