Wiretap - Shaq Could Be Dealt To Hornets For Chandler

According to a report from the New York Daily News, Shaquille O'Neal believes he's going to New Orleans in a deal for Tyson Chandler.
The Hornets traded Chandler to the Oklahoma City Thunder ahead of the deadline, only to later have it be rescinded. New Orleans still appears motivated to deal Chandler and would like Shaq's expiring contract.
I know this is just a rumor and might not require a new thread but personally i like this trade for us. As i wrote in the trade board, Shaq is an expiring contract so NOH gets $20 mil off the books in 2010 which certainly helps their financial situation. As for the Suns, they might try to compete another season (Nash's contract also ends in 2010) rather then blow it all off, so getting Chandler will be cheaper and fits the style we have under Gentry. This trade by itself doesn't work financially unless NOH adds another player and i think the Suns might ask for Daniels as his contract will come off the book after next season saving us $6 mil.
One more thing, we don't have a draft pick in 2010 so if we end up in the lottery it will be disastrous for us, all the more reasons to make another run next season.

idk how i feel but to a certain degree i say DO IT.
Nash/Dragic
JRICH/barbo/tucker
Hill/ Barnes (maybe not), Dudly
Amare/ Lou
Chandler/Lou, Swift
would that what it would be? idk if thats good but it is def. better than having shaq in there because this allows us to go nuts with tempo.

I would literally cry out in joy if this happened.
I think whether or not we want it Shaq will be traded in the offseason to cut salary. It makes the most sense because he has a large expiring deal and is coming off a great season that shows he can still be productive.
So in my opinion, if we most likely are going to trade shaq how amazing would it be to get a young center like Chandler who fits in perfectly with Amare and our system?
The only concern is his toe but I think that if our training staff can make a bunch of 30 year olds prominent again they can make a younger guy healthy.

Would have to include Posey or Daniels to make it work. In a perfect world I would be all over this, however, I don't think anything of this magnitude happens. One can hope though.
Nash/Rich/Posey(Hill)/Amare/Chandler would be a contending lineup no question.

With Chandler and Stoudemire on the floor you have two legitimate PNR threats.
Nash could lob passes to Amare and Tyson all game long. On top of that, the Suns would have the best shot-blocking front-court duo in the league.

Dream trade, and getting Daniels to backup Nash would be awesome. Dude used to have game, i haven't checked on him lately with the Hornets but he's probably still good.

I would love it! I see it unrealistic that it could happen. However, shaq has been a beast and his contract comes off next year for an owner that is cheaper then ours. If this works out, and if chandler could be healthy for a full year, I would be estatic to see what this team could do.
Hope it happens.

This is crazy. I hardly think the Hornets, who are about to begin a playoff series that they believe they can win, are thinking about their off-season trades right now.

Let me see here...............
We want to give up a guy who, while getting up there in age, was definitely a factor this year - the 3rd best center in the league........who has a $20 million expiring contract ....... for...........
Tyson Chandler .........who has finished what, one full season in his career? The guy is a walking injury. There's no doubt he's a great PNR guy, in fact he has accounted for so many of Chris Paul's assists and I argue that his important on that team last year was unquestioned.
I'm not quite sure on why Phoenix would bite on this deal. $20 million comes off the books after next year. Why would we want to take on salary which continues past 2009-2010? At the very least it would have to be Tyson + an expiring .......but haven't looked up who they have that fits the bill ......... I wouldn't take any other player on that roster outside of Paul or West.

Ya, but you aren't going to get Paul or West for O'Neal.
Chandler would be a much better compliment to Stoudemire than O'Neal. You could still shed about $10mm in salary next offseason (about 5-6 this offseason), with Chandler increasing his value because of Phoenix's mircale-working training staff.
I don't think the Suns could attract any of the big-ticket FAs in 2010, but if you could put a team of Stoudemire, Chandler, Richardson and Barbosa on the floor you might be able to attract some mid-level talent. O'Neal's contract would be more valuable to a team who could lure a major 2010 FA, the Suns FO needs to make a play accordingly.

While we don't seem to be in the same financial predicament as NOH, I'm not sure why Sarver would take in a longer contract over a fat expiring. Though I would love it if he pulled this trade off. Let's get it done!

I love it.
For the dude above, Chanlder missed time this year but other then that . . .
Last year he played in 90 games with playoffs.
Before that 73 games without playoffs
86 games with playoffs in 2005
86 games with playoffs in 2004
75 in sophmore year
71 in rookie year.
Really it's been this year and 2003/2004 he's been injured. That's 6 years barely missing any games and 2 missing half the season. Like an average of 4 games a season the 4 season before this.
He's young, and a trio of Barbosa, Amare, Tyson along with role players like Lopz, Dudley, Dragic and a LOTTERY pick would be nice for the future.
Tyson is a 12/12 player when healthy and given the minutes. It is a gamble though, I will admit.
Plus it still gives the Suns ONE MORE SHOT! I love it as a fan, but if I was the owner I say no.

I think.
I'm definitely going to miss Shaq as a personality, but I'll also miss having a beast down low to throw the ball to.

I guess I'm cool with it. I would like to see us draft either, James Johnson, Earl Clark or Chase. We need a 3 to back up grant. Dudley is cool, but get real!!

We should make NOH give up a draft pick or something for taking on Chandler's contract, but then again, Kerr is kind of epic fail every time he makes a trade.

I LOVE it. I proposed this trade about 2 weeks ago and have since been asking people about it on Hoopsworld and Espn Chats. I got other people talking about it and now i hear this rumor. I have a feeling that someone in the Suns F.O. heard the idea and thought it was a good one. I kinda feel like this was started because of me! I know it probably wasnt, but i heard absolutely NOTHING about Chandler to PHX until i opened up my big mouth on numerous boards/chats. Now i just need to start pushing my Nash to NY for Robinson and W.Chandler idea everywhere and see what pops up!
This off-season is gonna be just awesome!

---I won't miss him. It's undeniable that he played better than expected but he has serious deficiencies as a player and, on balance, I don't see how he made the team that much better. Did we win games because of Shaq? Doesn't seem so to me.
