Suns should add a defensive stopper in the offseason

Sign a defensive stopper swingman and let him be the 4th or 5th option on offense. I'm thinking Ariza, Artest (doubt it), Marion (also doubt it), Jamario Moon.
Nash
JRich
??
Amare
Shaq
Our frontcourt is fine defensively with Amare back, now all we need is to add the lockdown swingman defender to guard the elite perimeter players in the Western Conference (Kobe, Ginobli, Mcgrady, Melo, Mayo, Roy, Durant, Gay)

I lol'd at "our frontcourt is fine defensively with Amare back". Did you mean offensively?

yes, defensively we're fine. earlier in the year with amare & shaq teams weren't abusing us in the paint like in past years. problem has been perimeter defense. yes, i know amare & shaq aren't good at all on defending the pick and roll (atrocious is the word i like to use for their P&R defense), surprisingly it was the bad perimeter defense that killed us. dwayne wade, lebron james, mo williams, stephen jackson, devin harris, brandon roy, kobe bryant, derrick rose, danny granger, tony parker, paul pierce, ray allen, ron artest; these guys killed us. shaq & amare did well against the big men like howard, yao, garnett, duncan.

I agree w/ you that our perimeter D hurt us the most, but we need active big guys that can cover the pick and roll, and Amare/Shaq aren't those guys...

Moon is not a defensive stopper by any means. Shaq and Amare are NOT fine.
We actually need at least two starting spots to be filled by not necessarily defensive stoppers but by defensive players. In the prime of SSOL we had KT, Marion and Bell as our three defensive guys who, at best, made our team play passable defense. One defensive stopper is not enough.
Shaq is going to get sucked into the PnR and get exploited.
Nash is going to get abused offensively and putting our stopper on the opposing team's PG or SG would only leave their offensive wingmen to do the job.
Amare is still going to get abused in the post against half-decent post players and Shaq is too slow to be a solid help defender.
What we need is to move JRich for at least a decent defensive guy, sign a defensive 3 and make the Shaq for Chandler trade. If we could move Shaq for Chandler and Posey then that's two spots filled out. As someone mentioned before, we should maybe make a play for Hinrich for JRich, then that's three defensive spots filled out.
If it was up to me, I'd try to move Shaq for Chandler and Daniels, maybe swap our CHA 2nd for their 2nd, this was we have more depth in the PG position. Do a JRich for Hinrich trade (add fillers) and sign Ariza to the full MLE.
Nash
Hinrich
Ariza
Amare
Chandler
Barbs
Daniels
Dudley
Lou
Dragic
Rolo
still SSOL-able. But of course our coach needs to be able to implement defensive plays when we need it, so hopefully Gentry has learnt a thing or two about defensive stops.

Already have such a player who rots mostly on the bench during games. His name is Lou.

amare could be a decent defender, but most teams are exploying Shaq and nash. That is the problem. Ariza would be a nice player to pick up at the full MLE. Lakers are goign to have to chose between him and Oden, and I am thinking they might chose Oden because of Bynum always getting hurt.
I like Ariza a lot and his shooting has got a lot better over the years. Thing is, one player is not going to do it. Moon to me is not a defensive guy, and marion is not going to come back here no matter what. Artest is not that good on D anymore. Ariza is that slasher we need, that guy that plays tough nose D and does not need the ball in his hands. Thing is, we need more then just one player. If nash, J-rich and Amare are on this team, we need another defensive minded player, that is what shaq has to go.
suns will resign Hill and Dudley has been a stud this year. we can't have him as our 3rd optoin. so, maybe we run with this if barbs could up his game, same with Amare if shaq is not traded.
nash/barbs/dragic
J-rich/Hill/barbs/tucker
Ariza/Dudley/Hill
Amare/Lou
Shaq/Flopez
Then the draft pick is bpa.
that is a playoff team, but can they win it all? I would say no.

Lou isn't quick enough to guard wings, and he's one of the main guys on our bench that gets consistent PT...

Hinrich would be a good player to bring in, but as backup PG or starting SG, I dont think so. He is a good offensive player, can pass it and plays D. I like what he brings to the table. I think with this trade we get really small and weak at the SG position. We need someone with good size to help us out here. Do we go after it in the draft??? That would be hard to get at #14. I still like Ariza as a FA, but am not sure we get the pieces we need to make this team cover it deficiencies and continue a high powered offense.

Yeah you're right about Hinrich being undersized to play the 2 even though he can score. I guess he looks big playing next to Gordon. If we use the full MLE on Ariza we won't have money to throw at a defensive 2.
We could take a chance on keeping JRich and hoping Ariza and Chandler would be enough to cover the defensive breakdowns.

A defensive stopper? We need to add 5 of them. And maybe 4 more for the bench to sub in with Lou.

You guys think Ariza will sign with the Suns who looks to be outside the elite teams in the West.
Not to mention he is thriving and HIGHLY regarded in LA.
Get Chandler and Posey, and trade JRich for 2010 Suns pick (from Thunder) + Sefalosha + 2010 Thunder pick.
PG: Nash, Dragic, Barbosa
SG: Sefalosha, Barbosa, Posey
SF: G.Hill, Barnes, Posey
PF: Stoudemire, Dudley, Amundson, Posey
C: Chandler, Lopez, Amundson

OKC would turn down that Rich deal before Kerr even finished proposing it.

Trading jrich for ak would be perfect. Draft t will and the perimeter would be covered. Trade shaq to no and the d would be good.
Nash/twill/ak/amare/chandler

I'm still trying to get past JMoon, defensive stopper ....
not that he's terrible, just inconsistent. If he ever gets 100% focused he'll be a monster, but at this late stage i don't think that's going to happen

You must have brain damage or something. He is as quick as they come. He should been a starter and not a bencher.

Just b/c someone else doesn't share your man-crush on Lou doesn't mean that they have "brain damage"

. Your obsession is getting in the way of your judgement.

Lou doesn't have the offensive competency to be a starter.
