I'd like him back for sure, and keep the same assistants while adding Silas to work with Amare

i like gentry and all that, but why rush into a decision that we dont have to?

surely we owe it to ourselves to interview thibodeau or another coach should they become available?

im starting to he Phil Webers name mentioned as a head coach around the league, i dont want him here, but its interesting

rather than silas as a big man coach - id lean towards ivaroni coming back

If they're bringing back the same team from last season then they have to keep Gentry cos the players like him and they played hard for him. Might be too risky to bring in a different coach with this bunch...we don't want another Porter situation!!!

+1...we've seen these past couple years where our chemistry does (D'A) and does not (Porter) work, and I think Gentry has come in and he's a great fit with these guys, they play motivated and don't complain to the media anymore and all that warm fuzzy stuff.

And I've wanted to bring in Silas for some time now, even as a head coach if for some odd reason they ditch Gentry.

How about Dan Majerle as coach? He spent a year on the bench and seems like the type of guy to balance both offense and defense instead of just focusing on one or the other, and the players should respect an all time Suns great right?

If Alvin wants twice the salary that might really complicate things.

He understands the need for strong physical defense and an comparable defense. But I think he still needs more time on the bench before he could be a good coach.

As for Gentry not being a guarantee. I think that they are just taking a time since they really botched up the coaching selection last season.

I don't think the Suns will hire a new coach. I think it all depends on Gentry if he wants to be the coach or not. Throughout last season, he hinted time and time again he rather be an assistant coach. He didn't like the resposibility or something but he always says it in interviews.

I agree with most of the others. That basically it is Gentry's job to lose or take. If he doesn't then I don't know who we will get for a coach. There are a bunch of them out there. Hubie Brown?

Hubie Brown would lose this roster like Porter. The vets would bristle under his firm(yet sublime) command.

I don't disagree with that rsavaj. I was actually throwing a name out there. I personally liked Avery Johnson as a Coach. However I would lead towards the team bristling under him as well. The players like Gentry. The players play hard for Gentry. It seems they also respect him. With all those things. I have no problem with him coming back. But let's not make a Terry Porter mistake again.

Go Suns!

gentry is a player's coach, keep him and get some assistants to work with the young guys on their glaring flaws (amare, barbosa, dragic, lopez)

this team is uncoachable. blow the team up or go ahead with gentry. if you decide to go with gentry than bring a defense coach as an assistent.

but you relay think that nash, shaq, amare & ghill are taking any coach serious who coaches them any kind of defense??

Props to the great one

I don't get the hesitation at all. Gentry has proven that he knows the game, understands (and can be realistic about) the team's shortcomings, and knows how to get the most out of what he has to work with. The players trust him and play for him... what's not to like? My guess is that this is merely posturing by Sarver to drive Gentry's price down a few notches.

Unless the FO ends up changing course and blowing the team up, Gentry is absolutely the right guy. The more we hesitate on pulling the trigger, the more we risk creating the lack of trust that led to the untenable situation between Kerr and D'Antoni.

You want to win with this roster? You need to hire a big time name like Tomjanovich.

You want to rebuild? You need to hire a young and hungry coach, heck I would even make a run for Mike Krzyzewski.

I personally would not like to see Gentry back, he is half of what D'antoni was on offense and the defense was better under D'antoni, which begs the question to Sarver and Kerr, why did you let him leave? Did you actually think your smarter then him?

I mean yeah anything is possible but I don't think Sarver and Kerr wanna risk in getting a coach who like Porter did not have any chemistry with his players. We are done with failed experiments. I'm almost 99.9999% sure that Gentry stays.

I was actually all about trying to pry Rudy T. out of retirement when Mike left. Would have been my first choice far and away, but I guess he's said there's no way he's coaching again. That last attempt in LA must have broken him.

IHG, I would take D'Antoni back. I was not for getting rid of him and was disappointed when he left. He's a brilliant offensive coach. But rather than going with a completely different philosophy (a la Porter... if we can call what he brought 'a philosophy'), Gentry knows how to implement an offense that best suits Nash's style. (Do you still think Nash is gone next season, btw?) We scored 117+ per game under Gentry. 110 in the last season under Mike. How much worse an offensive coach can Gentry be? And defensively, the jury is wayyyyyy out. He was handed a team with no defensive players. (Okay, Hill, Lou, Dudley...) He didn't have Matrix, Raja, and Boris -- all keys to Mike's defensive "success." Why start again with a totally different philosophy? We're not winning a championship with this roster, can't overhaul it until 2010, and might as well just enjoy the ride and do a little damage in the Playoffs next year. That's my vote, anyway.

Coach K would literally cost them what Nash costs them...He's a Blue Devil lifer...
