Steve Nash Asked for Shaq to Be Traded?

According to an NBA source, Nash expressed his displeasure with O'Neal during a meeting last week in New York with general manager Steve Kerr.

Nash, still one of the best point guards in the NBA, will become a free agent after this season if the Suns can't sign him this summer to a contract extension.

"I think he told him (Kerr) that if O'Neal was there, he wouldn't be around much longer,'' said the NBA source who requested his name not be used. "That pretty much sealed it.''

Nash had grown weary of O'Neal's inability to keep up with the fast-paced play that the Suns had been so successful with in the past and with O'Neal's demand to be a bigger part of the offense.

So a "nba source who requested his name not to be used" thinks Nash said that.

Wow, how credible! I can't believe this isn't front page stuff.

Here we go again.

Marion wanted out

JoeJ didn't like Phoenix

Raja asked to be traded

MikeD wanted out

KT wasn't being used enough

Nash asked Shaq to be traded

It never was the FO's fault a player is traded, even it's cleraly a financial move.

--- a reputable paper that will run "blind" quotes such as this would have insisted that the section editor or someone higher know for an absolute fact exactly who is making the statement, if not reconfirm it with them personally before it's allowed to run.
That said, how reputable is the paper?

Marion wanted a lot of money, but he also wanted out because the Front office was trying to trade him behind his back, and he got fed up with all the trade rumors.

Front office wanted to go in a different direction. It wasn't simply D'antoni wanting out.

KT was traded to save money.

Front office had a lot to do with many of those situations, not all on purpose, but the outcomes were related indirectly and directly to their actions.

It's not like it would be a big surprise if it was true. Nash and Shaq didn't seem to be able to play well together. And the fact is Shaq isn't a good fit for a Run and Gun team. He probably did ask for him to be traded.

wasnt it a story a while ago that nash or his agent demanded that the suns get 'more athletic' up front? i thought we all knew since then that nash wanted shaq out. and, nash was right.

For Nash, it's all about the TEAM. What he wants is the best for the TEAM. His being the man and feeling good is the best for the team. So, what else is new?

i dont think this is fair. it was having both nash and shaq that made us so susceptible to the PnR. nash is better than shaq and cheaper too. so shaq needed to be moved.

I think he means when Cavs were picking and the commentators were talking about all the star players Shaq played with and Nash was left out. JVG and Mark Jackson said Nash needs to be in that convo
