The Griffin Brothers

Post#1 » by TheMan44 » Fri Jul 10, 2009 8:40 pm

Although they are working out separately, both Taylor and Blake are BEASTS when it comes to hard work and dedication.

Tay was in SoCal pumping nearly 315 lbs on the bench (that's 3 plates on each side). Guy's like a football player. Guess he will still play small forward instead of power cause of his shooting ability and shorter height. But still not a Suns contract so gotta see if Suns pick him up.

But anyways, Blake works out up in San Fran and has been doing the dune hill workouts running up and down a bunch of sand. Both bros have a yoga/workout/bball routine. Both are very dedicated and fully think Taylor will most definitely stick in the NBA for a very very long time. He has the Corey Maggette / Kendal Gill / Linas Kleiza thing going for him - except I think he is much stronger than those guys.

After Big Ben buyout, you're looking at:

C Frye-Lopez
F Amare-Lou
F Hill-Dudley
G JRich-Barbs
G Nash-Dragic

11- Clark
12- Tucker
13- TAYLOR or SASHA if not waived

I sure hope the 13th guy is Taylor over Sasha cause people are going to love his game.

Yeah i did see 'The Rookie' show w/ Blake Griffin and it showed them running dunes in Cali holding 80 pound bars... Nuts! Who knows how T-Griff could work out, will be exciting to see

My sister goes to OU and I had a chance to see Taylor play several times in person.

He's scrappy and get's garbage points, he can dunk and had one or two plays worhty have standing up and clapping mildly... but that's about it. He doesn't have 3pt range. He's undersized and won't get many boards. I like the Kleiza comparison, probably the best way to describe him physically, but I'm not sure the talent is or ever will be close.

At the end of the day, we would still pay him around 300k to 400k less than a vet FA, so we may keep him as #13 for that reason.

But at least this guy was picked in the late 2nd round and NOT the mid 1st like Lopez!
At least Griffin leaves us with..........

I'm no expert on his game but form all I've gathered he could be a Kris Humphries type if he gets his jumper going a bit better. Or a Joey Graham, in terms of strength.

I was told that he's a Dudley type of player but with some athletic ability. I've been told that scouts have also compared him to Matt Harpring. Very physical, has athletesim and can shoot from 18ft.. I would keep him if he's anything like Matt Harpring...

Some sports writer will once again confuse our inferior version of the two brothers.

How can you judge Robin Lopez after one year?

Jermaine O"Neal sat on the bench his first four years in Portland before going to Indy in year 5 or 6 before developing

Tyson Chandler took a good 4 years to develop in Chicago before moving to New Orleans and showing his true game

Even a guy like Hilton Armstrong has taken a couple years in New Orleans

I realize Chandler and O'Neal came out of high school but at least give Robin Lopez a chance to play before labeling him a bust. He was a rookie that didn't play very much at all.

As for Griffin - Taylor - I think we need to sign a guard that can defend over this bench warmer - but maybe he beats out Tucker.

I'm judging his 1st year, not his whole life. Many could agree with me that his expectations were much much higher than what he gaves us his 1st year. Like you, I hope his 2nd year is a turn around/break thru year.

I like what I've seen from Taylor Griffin and I think he would be fine as our 13th man... obviously it doesn't really matter because he'll probably play 20-30 minutes the entire season...

it would be interesting to see what he could do. but after looking at our roster and already having 13 players not including wallace and sasha, we really need a more developed player at this time to sign with us.

Taylor Griffin will be a pro for a long time in the NBA because he is athletic and can defend multiple positions. He has a decent mid range jumper and appears to possess solid fundamentals . I expect him to play well Monday during the NBA Summer League. His work ethic and character will allow him to improve down the road.

Overall I think he is a perfect fit for the Suns because they can always use some toughness and grit on the defensive end.
