"Expect me, like you would expect Jesus, to come back. I'm coming," Stoudemire, the man with a "Black Jesus" tattoo, said by phone midday Saturday, shortly before putting a nearly identical message on his Twitter account with the postscript: "I'm doing well. 'Still I rise.' "

I'm not religious so this doesn't make any difference to me but how do religious Suns fans out there feel about Amare comparing himself to Jesus? Also what does everyone else think both non-religious and religious?

I don't care who he compares himself too. I'm just hoping Amare comes back hungry and proves to everyone that he means business next season. :D

He is referencing the late great Tupac Shakur.

"Still I Rise" was the name of 1 of Tupac's albums after he died.

"Black Jesus". Tupac has a song by this name which I believe is on the Still I Rise album.

"Expect me, like you would expect Jesus, to come back. I'm coming," This is a line out of Black Jesus at the end of the song when Tupac ends the music.

Amare is just a huge Pac fan and draws association and inspiration with Pac's struggles and his own. Both grew up hard, poor and black in america. Both of their mothers were single parents on crack, in and out of jail. They both mainly raised themselves to become something in this world defying unimaginable odds. They also took care of there younger siblings when "momma was not around"

Amare didn't compare himself to Jesus so the title of this thread is inaccurate. :meditate:

If this is the type of menatl rationale Amare has used to make himself who he is, keep it up. It has been working contrary to all of the negative people who hate on him and wish him bad.

Amare is not a low character guy, stop trying to turn every little statement he makes into something it isn't.

To whoever said for Amare to walk the walk, he does. From what i've heard he's one of the hardest workers in the NBA.

^^^ haha, yeah he works on everything - but never works on his defense...
if he were one the hardest worker than i can´t understand why the suns wanted to get rid of him and noone made a offer that kerr liked - sounds a little bit strange to me

These injuries are taxing on his ego. Remember, just a few years back when he was bangin the dunks on everyone, NBA.com had a stat line of Dunks with he a Shaq leading the pack by double of everyone else.

He can self-inflate all he wants... right now, he is his only spokesman.

If he walks the walk, everyone will forget about what he said, and will be enthralled about what he is doing. Myself included.

I think I liked this even better:

Stoudemire said he has become friends with the last decedent of Sun Tzu.

I am pretty religious and I don't care. It reminds me of stuff Shaq did. But it seems like shaq grows more immature every year. I think Amare picked it up from the big baboon.

I don't think he meant anything by it, if he said he was going to rise like the phoenix I don't think we'd be wondering if he really thought he was a flaming bird.... and Postal employees never got angry with Karl Malone after all.

But yeah he does run his mouth a lot and I could see how his comments could be spun to be offensive by some.

Truth is he was in all likelihood he was just trying to:
1) let us fans know he intends to have a big year.
2) Pay respect to his own religious beliefs.

Maybe poorly executed but no harm or importance as I see it.
