Poll: Better Defender: Marjele or Hornacek

Marjele was on the all defensive 2nd team twice, but many praise Hornacek as a defender as well.

I love Horny. and I certainly think he was a good defender -- definitely underrated in that sense. But edge goes to Majerle here. In his prime, Majerle was among the best in the league, and I don't think that ever could be said of Hornacek.

Marjele is much better known but I would go with Horny. He was a lot quicker and very under-rated.

That sure is a tough one to answer. Both were good at doing the best that they could, and brought all around toughness to a team. If you compare their 91'-92' season, where they both were on the Suns together, they look pretty close in the defensive stats.

Dan had a little more height at 6'6", where Horny was only 6'3". So Dan could guard bigger guards and sometimes the small fowards. Although, I think KJ guarded Jordan better than Majerle.

Hornacek still lives in Phoenix, and Utah. Both his sons were going to St Mary High School I believe. They probably graduated already but I remember playing basketball against them at a local recreation center.
I seen him during the middle of May going into Best Buy lol.

Anyways. I think Majerle had better defense.

Hornacek was a comparatively unathletic player to begin and that was before his knee injury. He wasn't especially good on defense in man-up situations but I remember that even when he was an old fogey in Utah, he was a pretty clever help defender. Certainly not anywhere near Majerle, though.

Honacek was much more pesky and smarter, but Majerle was just simply the better defender.
