Could we do J-Rich for Odom?

Post#1 » by JJ13 » Thu Jul 30, 2009 3:47 pm

Just wondering if this would ever work, and/or if the Lakers would even be interested. Could Laker's S&T Odom for J-Rich? With Sasha V's inconsistency last year, especially in the playoffs, perhaps they'd want a solid SG to back-up Kobe, and/or play beside him at SF.

Just a thought, would really like Odom on the Suns.

Lakers have zero need for JRich. They have enough sharpshooters from outside, and have the ultimate slasher/inside scorer in Kobe, and Jordan Farmar's not bad at that either. They have a huge need for a big man who's a good passer and ball handler in the triangle system. I'd give this a -15% chance of happening.

Mostly agreed - so if Odom leaves do the Lakers stand pat? I REALLY hope he leaves...if so, I think we at least have a shot of competing for the division.

The reason they are having a tough time with Odom is because they want to cut his salary to roughly 9 mil a year. So why would they want a player with a 14 mil contract..?
Plus they already have Bynum at 12 mil, Gasol at 15 mil, and Kobe at 16 mil (all off the top of my head), they don't want another big salary.

I honestly think Odom is the most important player to their system outside of Kobe Bryant. If they let him walk, it will be devastating to their title repeat chances.

Right - this is all about money and Kobe's new deal is coming up. No way they pay JRich $14 mil. Why anybody ever did is beyond me - not that he has no talent, just that it's nowhere near enough to justify that payday

I heard a Laker fan yesterday tell me that Odom doesn't fit the triangle offense and so he doesn't care if Odom comes back or not...

I'd put Pau there and then Odom. Odom was very versatile and usually when a starter takes a seat on the bench it gives the opposing team a weakness to attack, but when Odom would come in for Gasol or Bynum it just added a different element. Odom was very effective in the Lakers system. I hope he leaves.

Lakers need Odom in order to repeat. I agree, Odom is the most important player in their system outside of Kobe. Odom to PHX, wow wouldn't that be something! I remember when the Free Agency period started there was a rumor that PHX wanted Odom. Chances are slim to none, only way we get odom is in a s/t using J-Rich.

I can't imagine L.A. letting Odom walk, Adam Morrison and my guy Luke Walton cannot carry that team when the bigs are sitting

Odom in PHX could put us back in contention for Western Conf. champs (pending Amare playing his best bball yet)...

I think Sarver should take out a loan from his bank to get this done :)

"As ESPN.com reported Monday, should the 29-year-old decide to reunite with Dwyane Wade and Pat Riley after haggling with the Lakers for so long, Odom likely will be deciding between a five-year, $34 million deal that includes a provision to return to free agency after the fourth season or a four-year deal with an opt-out clause after three years."

...Not to beat a dead horse here, but couldn't we dump J-Rich for expirings+pick and offer up something along the lines of what the Heat are throwing at Odom (e.g. $7MM/yr)? This is assuming we buy out the expiring, or just take the hit (not likely)

This just in from Bucher twitter:

"RicBucher: Relief! LO will make his decision in next 48 hours, source says. Wants to stay in LA, Lakers making it hard."

Am I think only one here who thinks that this is the biggest off-season move that will effect the Suns?

That's the problem, no one wants J-Rich.

Should we wait a year or should we just hand the Lakers their championship now?
