I wonder if the Suns could bring Pat Burke or Yuta Tabuse back

I would look to pick up Ronald Murray, Mikki Moore, Wally Szerbiak, Von Wafer, or Desmond Mason.

I wouldn't mind the Suns sending Leon Powe an offer of 2-3 mil. He is only 6-8 but I remember this guy being an animal. He bangs, gets dirty, has muscle, and can run the floor well. If only he was taller, he would fit as a good center, but I think he can be a Ben Wallace type of player.
I heard he was getting looks from the Lakers, Cavs, and Magic. I think if Phoenix called him, he would choose the Suns over the other three teams because he'd receive more minutes and his stats would climb playing with Nash, and the whole SSOL system. Plus since no one else rebounds his rebounds would also jump up.
However if the Cavs do pick up Leon Powe that probably means they are done shopping, which leaves Joe Smith open to another team. He is classy, shoots the mid-range jumper well, and can rebound, would fit perfectly for the Suns.
The Hawks probably aren't gonna re-sign Ronald Murray. Would be nice firepower to the bench, but we already have Barbosa to take care of that. I wouldn't mind another pure scorer off the bench though.

Why the hell would the Suns want those players back? They were practically USELESS during Mike D'Antoni's era. What makes you think they would be any good now...?

I agree^^ but we should also take a look at Ronald Murray, Mikki Moore, or Von Wafer.

Man I said Ronald Murray.
The Suns were already interested in Von Wafer but his attitude is questionable. With Mikki Moore you know exactly what you are getting out of him. With someone like Leon Powe, he still has room to grow, and the upside could be huge. But then again, I'm unsure if the Suns need another young player to develop. I'd rather get Joe Smith out of all the players. Then cut Sasha and try to sign a veteran backup point guard for vet's minimum (Bobby Jackson, Anthony Carter).
This would be a deep team
Nash/Dragic/Carter
Richardson/Barbosa/Tucker
Hill/Dudley/Clark
Frye/Amundson
Amare/Lopez/Smith

I wouldn't mind taking another look at Courtney Sims. I didn't see if he signed with anyone yet. Maybe a vet min contract. Carney is another good choice, but I am not sure where the mins will come from.

If we can't swing a KT deal, which would be my first choice, I would like to try Sims.

Pretty sure Powe is out until at least the All Star game.. and that is the best case scenario.

I doubt any teams will sign him until he's proven his health.

What about McCants? If he would come for cheap he would be a good option. We could always use another shooter.

Jeff Adrien, undrafteed PF from UConn, if we don't go after any big name C's in free agency or trades I would like to offer him a roster spot, he can be our Jason Maxiell.

So - selected for talent/experience, now what do they really offer?

Leon Powe

Young, talented rebounder and paint presence, decent scoring, would be a stud in the PHX system. But coming off a bad knee injury (calling the medical wizards) and CLE has made an offer. Our rep for helping people come back form serious injuries might entice him.
He's a solid banger, something we don't have. Softness is an issue with our team

Juwan Howard

Maybe, then again ...no. Two years ago he was a 10/6 guy in Houston. Is anything left? Nah

Joe Smith Smith was solid last year in OKC and Cleveland. ATL said to be after him. He'd be a nice pickup for us - big enough and savvy enough to play center if needed

Lorenzen Wright - He done

Gerald Green - didn't get a lot of time last year but when JHoward hurt his wrist, Green filled in and had 13/12. Then he went back to the bench ... you have to think they know something if they let him walk, but still - kid's got skill. Our med staff any good at fixing heads?

Dikembe Mutombo - Older than Jesus but could he play spot minutes (Lopez foul trouble) and mentor?

Rodney Carney - 6'7" decent offensive skills, no ballhandling really but a tough defender which we could use at the 2

Robert Swift - 7'1", 270, more injuries than minutes played as someone said. Again, spot minutes maybe, and who knows what can be done with his knees. Best line - a Celts fan: "This guy makes Larry Bird look like Cary Grant"
Nah

Adonal Foyal - the Magic kept him until now mostly as a practice partner for DHoward.

Stromile Swift - if Stro were in shape and motivated, he could shine in PHX but why would that happen now after so many years of nothing. Still, he wouldn't be bad. Not solid enough to be a real banger but a good shotblocker, decent defender

Joey Graham - saw a lot of this kid in TO but despite flashes he never made a real sustained improvement. 6'7" but came in for Bosh at PF due to strength and athletic ability - plays much bigger than he is. He could really find himself here

I think Petro could beat out Frye and Lopez for the starting center job, a little rebounding couldn't hurt anyone

So this is going to sound crazy, but I actually think the Suns will compete next year. Yes the Lakers have Artest, who should be motivated, but as a team I think they were better with Ariza as a role player than Artest which is another big personality. Kobe Bryant will be who he is, but their point gaurd situation isn't great and with the loaded front court I see playing time issues, some one isn't going to be happy. Don't get me wrong, they will be good, they will just be vulnerable.
The Blazers will be good with Miller added to the mix, but I think they are still a few years off. I see them going far in the playoffs, but being to "green" to get it done.
I respect Denver, but I think they out played themselves last year, plus they are the type of team that gets sucked into running with the Suns, which nobody can really do.
As far as the Spurs...I really like their offseason, but they will continue to live and die by their big three, and they just haven't been as healthy. They will continue to be our biggest match-up nightmare, but if we can just make a few small additions I think we can get by them.
In the whole SSOL era I have felt the suns have needed only 2 things: A defensive minded back-up to Nash and Someone to protect the rim and take on the tough front court defensive assignment to free up STAT. (Of course, now I also think we could also use a defensive wing, but Dudley may be that guy.) I think the reason STAT was so successful when Shaq came was the fact that he didn't have to worry about his tough defesnive assignments. He was free from foul trouble and it allowed him to be more agressive on the offensive end. If we could get another big that could take those assignments (and maybe guard the pick and role a bit better) he would break out again.
What I would like to see happen is for us to sign Joe Smith, a smart defesive big with the ability to hit a mid-range jumper and then sign someone like Desmond Mason as our defenisve wing. We could go for Carter to back-up Nash, but I actually am liking Dragic. I think he has the size and speed to become a good defender of point gaurds and I think Mason, while old, still has something left in the tank. I think his style fits the suns and while he isn't really a shooter, he is a scorer.
I really think with everyone healthy, we have a shot at this thing, I feel nuts writing that, but I can't get that thought out of my head.

I don't see us contending. We'll definitely be competitive and give some of the better teams a run for their money when we play them, but we'll fall short. We'd probably make the playoffs with the Rockets injuries to Yao, Tmac and losing Artest.

We're not deep enough, to go far in the playoffs. We have too many unproven young guys around Nash, Hill and Amare. Simply put, this team is not built for contention this season. One or two additions is not enough.

Look, Suns are not gonna sign any of those free agents because 90% of them are gonna sign elsewhere in NBA or Europe for more money and more playing time.

Nobody in their right mind is gonna sign minimum to sit on the 13th bench slot.

Furthermore, Robert Sarver is on the Board of Governors Labor Relations Committee for the NBA. This means Sarver is thinking NOTHING but saving money money money - esp. when there is a potential lockout looming next year: http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archi ... t_in_2011/

1. Suns want to trade Pavlovic for an even cheaper contract.

2. If they fail to do so, they'll just waive him and sign a $400,000 rookie like Taylor Griffin.

That's it. No Wafer. No Joe Smith. No Flip Murray. No Nothing.
