Looks like Big Ben has 1 year left...
Big Ben signs 1 year deal with the Pistons again, more then likely to start with the absence of Sheed. Wonder what type of numbers he puts up this year. If we aren't going to try and go after a Center I would have preferred we kept him so he could fill that large void we have at the big position.

Re: Looks like Big Ben has 1 year left...
I was under the impression that if a player gets bought out and then signs a contract with another team, the amount of money the new contract is for gets subtracted from the amount the former team paid for the buyout for cap and tax purposes....
Anyone have any idea?

yay, 1.3 million dollars back from the 10 million we paid him..........
Not gonna lie, minus the void at SF this is a pretty tough lineup. Adding Ben to the C position.

But you never know, the 1.3 million he gets back might motivate him to get us a Center that is better then RoLo.

Re: Looks like Big Ben has 1 year left...
Pistons also signed their three draft picks Austin Daye, DaJuan Summers and Jonas Jerebko. Summers is expected to play backup to Tay right away while Austin bulks up.
Depth chart looks more like.....
R. Stuckey/W. Bynum
R. Hamilton/B. Gordon
T. Prince/D. Summers/A. Daye
C. Villanueva/J. Maxiell/J. Jerebko
C. Wilcox/K. Brown/B. Wallace
Only Rip, BG, Daye, CV and Max are signed beyond 2010/2011. If Rip/Max are traded and Summers/Stuckey re-sign, the Pistons will be really young with alot of money to help build around that core.

We'll we don't get it back, it just doesn't count against our salary figures.
Remember, as long as we are over the tax that is really more like $2.6, not bad.

This was a Sarver move not a Kerr move. A Kerr move would be trading Doris Meow for a borderline all-star, solid role player and an early 2010 second rounder or drafting the best defender and possibly player in the 2009 draft.

J-rich is not a borderline all star. Not even close.

Richardson is a flashy role player at best. No D, mediocre jumpshot, freakish leaping ability. If you think about it he is a rich man's Gerald Green.

Just two seasons ago he was putting up around 22-5-3 shooting 40% from the 3 point line, those arn't all-star numbers?

Re: Looks like Big Ben has 1 year left...
People here are so hard on JRich, its ridiculous. Come on people, when we got him everyone was saying how he's explosive, an underrated defender, etc. He's a solid second option on many teams, not a role player. Look what he did in Charlotte for god's sake. Maybe we don't need a JRich here but let's not let prejudice or unrest with our roster make us resort to name calling.
As far as the Big Ben situation goes, I said from the very beginning here is a guy who we need to give to our medical/training staff and we need him in our rotation. Letting him go was bizarre; sure you are shedding salary with the Shaq trade but if you aren't going to keep Big Ben and possibly not Pavlovic, then you are making yourself look stingy and stupid. I hope he tears it up in DET cause he definitely has more game in him, given a chance.

Wish I had seen this reply before my rant. What he said.

Yeah the Suns could have easily waived Pavlovic and still saved the same amount of cash. Then they could have at least tried to play Ben or use him as a an expiring contract trading chip, even if those options didn't work they could have bought him out in the season.

I thought it was a trade that we lost, and I wasn't saying any of those things. Those people who DID say that got caught up in A)Kerr's spin and B)Richardson's dunking ability. Richardson is a terrible defender and a below average ball handler, contrary to the poor man's Joe Johnson that so many on this board touted him to be initially. Go back and look at the threads when the trade happened and you'll see what I'm talking about.
And what did he do in Charlotte? Put up 20 ppg? Funny, didn't seem to improve their win total much, did it?

Re: Looks like Big Ben has 1 year left...
I'm sure you didn't make those comments, but they were rampant. And the last time anyone judged Rich purely by his dunking ability was when he was in the dunk contest. I don't really know how someone with JRich's skillset cannot be considered a serviceable second/third option. Keep in mind, there are only a few NBA players who are well-rounded and talented enough in every category to avoid criticism for weaknesses, and they are making more than JRich anyway.
I'll make you a deal - I'll go back and look at the threads where people supposedly didn't get too hyped about JRich if you'll go back and look at JRich's ACTUAL impact on his teams. Charlotte is an expansion team with questionable moves under its belt, so I do hope you aren't judging JRich's career by their struggles. But feel welcome to watch tapes of the Bobbies before and after JRich. Case in point.

Re: Looks like Big Ben has 1 year left...
I think he did well there but overall I'm not sure if he's actually a player that we need to succeed. His scoring can be replaced by Barbosa, as can his defense. His rebounding is nice for that spot though. I think a lot of the anti Richardson sentiment comes from the fact that we traded two members of our core(who fit our needs better) for him, and then Kerr tried to spin it so obviously("HE'S A GREAT DEFENDER!") that it all just kind of fell flat. He's just had some boneheaded moments(Spurs game, 360 dunk attempt)+his off-court misdemeanors and I think as fans that's why we've soured on him.

I thought this. I was wrong. I'd rather admit my mistake than compound it by pretending he is better than he is.
