OT:People being bussed to townhall meetings to disrupt them

Well some of you may have heard this on the news already but there have been townhall meetings across the country holding healthcare debates.

You may also have heard that Republicans and conservatives are recruiting people to go to them to disrupt them or spread propaganda and make up things up about the plan. Kind of scary if you think about, even though some people don't support the new healthcare plan they don't go to have a debate but to actually try and disrupt the townhall meeting or going as far as to make up things...

So just wondering what everyone thinks about this?

I ain't American but I think it's wrong. I don't know a thing about your health care nor the policies your different political parties are pushing for, but I do know that if there should be debates for health care, it should only be for improving it. Health care is for the people and if the debates are about how to improve health care then politics and political affiliation should be put aside.

It is definitely a scary thing when people resort to that for political issues. I'm neither Democrat nor Republican but I hate to see either party do that immature stuff. It always happens here, whoever is not in office gets desperate and parades around with all this crap. Good ol' democracy.

Oh my god, people are being bussed in who disagree strongly with the subject! They might bring up points that health care advocates disagree with! We might have to find evidence to dispute their claims! Oh, the humanity!

No that's the point, they don't go to debate but to disrupt them. On TV they were showing clips of people shouting out things disrupting the meeting and they had to be removed.

The point of a town hall meeting is to let elected representatives know how you feel about a subject. Are they not accomplishing that goal? There are a lot of people who are very oppose to the new health care bill; is it wrong that they oppose in this way?

Say they had a town hall meeting to talk about the Iraq war in 2007 (when it was getting pretty unpopular). If anti-war protesters came, were extremely vocal, and let their dissent be heard, would you have a problem with it? I know I wouldn't.

I also have no problem with removing them, if that is the policy of the people running it. But LOL @ complaining about "bussing them in." The complaint should be about how they conduct themselves, not about how they are passionate or about how a lot of dissenters come.

I hope to god this is not a purely liberal board. Check where you get your information. MSNBC is one of the most tilted news agencies in the country. While it is true that there is some organization behind the scenes, they are not being "bussed" in.

Please remember that when Bush was in office how many protests about Iraq and the Patriot Act there were that were openly organized by multiple organizations and left groups. There was no outcry then and there should be no outcry now. The First Amendment of the Constitution gives all Americans the freedom of speech and especially to protest politically.

Liberals tend to forget this when they don't agree with the protesters. If you are liberal then that is fine. To each his own. But surely don't be fooled by "news" outlets. If you want the truth and not tilted garbage then check out independent outlets.

And to think that Obama's health care plan (which he has not yet shared specifics on yet) will fix anything is moronic. A single payer health care system would bankrupt this country. Why mess with the best health care system in the world? The only negative thing is the cost, but people who want to be covered can get covered. There does need to be more regulation with the insurance companies, but if the government would allow Americans to buy insurance across state lines it would drive costs down and fix a lot of problems. I have never heard of an American going to Canada, or France to have an invasive procedure done. I have heard of the Italian Prime Minister and the Dali Lama coming to America to be cured. I also care about the elderly and know a Universal Health Care System would lead to rationing which would be fatal to seniors.

Maybe I lean towards the right, but my logic is based off facts and history. All countries that have single payer systems are going bankrupt and have rationing.

Let's just say I disagree with your views on healthcare...but I'm always a bit hesitant to get into political discussions with fellow fans since it kind of cheapens the camaraderie we have as Suns fans IMO. I use the OT boards(CA, General) to say my piece about that kind of stuff.

No chance. I don't want to argue in favor of the current health care system because it sucks. I do think single-payer would suck even more. I'd like to see what an actual free market in health care would do.

+1 for sure. This could get out of hand pretty quickly. Plus, I guess this puts all of our overseas fans in a wierd position since they may not be too familiar with the whole left wing/right wing/healthcare thing.

This was mainly supposed to be about what everyone thought of the conservative lobbying groups recruiting people to do this but nothing wrong with having a debate about healthcare, it shouldn't get out of hand, this isn't azcentral :lol:

Speaking of azcentral tonights a bad night to visit if you're an Obama supporter, there's a thread about him comming to visit the Grand Canyon and Phoenix next week and let's just say over 70% of the comments arn't good :nonono:

There you get the conservatives who don't think through their views and somehow think things like keeping all immigrants out of the country and vigorously fighting the war against drugs are consistent with a "free-market" mentality. Democrats are well known for busing protesters (even cheerleaders) around. These so-called townhall meetings are a sham anyway since none of the representatives have read the damn bill to begin with.

Frankly, I wouldn't need recruiting. I'd go on my own if there was a local townhall meeting!!! Feds have no business in the healthcare business anyway. Not a constitutional object invested with them.

Those are from a quick google search... there are countless articles about this industry's (and
other ones) who are directly influencing political policy.

wake up to the truth and realize our political foundation has become compromised by the insatiable greed for money and power going on in our legislative branch, and the corruption IS NOT bipartisan.

To expect these 'shills' to come up with something sensible concerning ANY of the TRUE problems in this country with out being shanghaied by corporate and 'special interest' payola is a pipe dream. We (the American people) are not their priority.

The problem is not the Government involved in health care industry...
The problem is the health care industries' involvement in OUR government.

Uh.....
This sounds exactly like what Obama did with ACORN people during the election. He bussed people in from all over to get them to vote (for him).

It's a taste of his own medicine, really. You've got to understand the history.

You should also know that Unions are bussing people in to these meetings too. So saying that the repubs are being "dirty" is a laughable statement when the behavior is exactly what dems have been doing for years.

All I know is that I'm sick of listening to Pelosi and Reid and Obama talk about stuff that they have no idea about. They are some of the most unintelligent people I've ever observed. And to top it off, they are hypocrites too. Well, most of the WA "governing class" are outright hypocrites on both sides of the isle, but these 3 take the cake for me. Make me throw up in my mouth actually.
