Quick question sort-of stolen from Orange_Blooded:
Is it possible to put Diana onto our team, and have a Drink-and-Drive guard duo?
I'm actually totally serious. Any WNBA player would be getting a massive raise no matter what the team paid her, and while physicality is a part of an NBA game, you can't argue with someone who shoots 45% from the field and 3-pointers. She can shoot.
I don't say this from some misguided effort to get women into the NBA; I think that people who can ball with the best should play with the best. Basketball can be a rough game, and the fact is that women in their twenties tend to get married and have kids (which doesn't help), so I think that there will always be a skew towards men in the league. But do you really think that the '07-'08 Suns would've wanted Piatkowski over Taurasi?

Thats actually pretty interesting. It had never even passed through my mind, but I am personally ok with taking on women in the NBA if they are good enough... it'll most likely never happen though

Taurasi is an absolute stud(ette?). In fact this entire Mercury squad is legit. It'd be cool if they could get another title this season.

I'm perfectly fine with women playing in the NBA, but I think there's caution due to the potential for sexual harrassment. What contact is deemed appropriate or inappropriate, etc.

Re: D. Taurasi
Yeah the sexual harrassment thing makes sense and then the media and tons of people would get all upset over like hard fouls and stuff like that
I know to a bball player it wont matter, cuz there's only players on the court, no guys and girls, but on a crucial fastbreak, and the ballhandler is a girl, and someone comes from behind and just puts on a real nasty hit, everyone would exaggerate it cuz it was on a girl
Plus what if ron artest fights a girl or something lol

If any woman could play in the NBA it is DT. I think she would actually be pretty good.

She would have a hard time contributing at the NCAA small school level.... put her on the Lumberjacks and she wouldn't crack the rotation.
Be serious.

Both she and Okafor said that she'd repeatedly school him whenever they played each other so I find your statement to be pretty ridiculous.

Dennis Rodman would've had a field day with her on the court

as it stands, are women allowed in the NBA? NFL? NHL? How come no women ever try to play there>

I think, in any job, if you can do the work and you're the best prospect or applicant, you should get the gig.
I have firefighter buddies and they're a pretty hardass bunch but their only comment on women in the firehouse was "Can she do the job?"

Uh guys, the NBA doesn't prohibit women. She'd be a huge defensive liability, about 15x moreso than guys like JJ Redick. Her schooling a center off the dribble doesn't say much. It's not even a given that she'd be efficient from 3 point range with a NBA sized ball (and being only 6 feet tall she'd have to deal with a lot more contests than the average player.)
I'm all for women playing in the NBA if they are good enough, but they just lack the size, strength, and athleticism. The top HS teams would just destroy the best WNBA team.

Re: D. Taurasi
You people can't be serious. I have watched Taurasi play plenty of times. She is an incredible basketball player. However, those of you who think she would stand a chance in the NBA are both insane and ignorant. Can she shoot the ball? Yes. But there is nothing else she would be able to do in the NBA. She isn't quick enough or athletic enough to compete with the athletes in the NBA. She wouldn't be able to defend anyone. Not being quick enough or athletic enough don't combine well with the fact that her size is well below average (she is listed at 6'0"). I am aware that there are plenty of 6'0" guards in NBA, but think of what kind of quickness and athleticism they possess. Yall can't be serious when you say she could play in the NBA...I hope not at least. This is the most asinine thing I have read in awhile.

only in college, but really.... you need to rethink yor thunkin.
You probably don't remember or even know of Nancy Lieberman who was the best that woman's BBall had to offer in her time (80's)... she played briefly (as a novelty act) for a mens pro spring league, the USBL, and then some for the Washington Generals of Globetrotter lore.... buts thats all she was, a novelty act. She went on to coach I believe and is still very much involved in girl hoops.
So tighten up your 'Homer'pants and enjoy her(DT) as she is... and, ftr, I can't watch more than 3 or 4 minutes of the WNBA... more power to them, but they are lucky to have fans like you. (are you a girl?.. because it seems 90% of the crowd are)
FYI, up until the late 80s's quite a few Girls HS BBallers played the 'old school' 6 on 6 basketball, with 3 guards and 3 forwards. A game much better suited for them and arguably better to watch.
http://www.iptv.org/series.cfm/19421/more_than_game_66_basketball a timely documentary for the discussion.

If Steve Nash was in the WNBA he would be the defensive player of the year. So in other words, no WNBA would be able to compete in the NBA

Ever see the Futurama where the crew of the Planet Express land on the Amazon planet?
Aside form the Snoo-snoo, there's a very funny women's basketball reference
