OT: Who do you start a franchise with?

Post#1 » by Miklo » Wed Sep 9, 2009 6:24 pm

RGM's recent polls gave me the idea to start a thread based on who, at each position, you would start a franchise with. The important thing here is that you pick one person for EACH position, but each position is a SEPARATE decision (these 5 players would NOT play together, the idea is simply "who would you start a franchise with if you had to pick a PG, who if you had to pick a SG", etc).

Factor in everything. Age, injuries, attitude, current skill versus potential, size, past performance.

Give brief rationale on why you pick each player.

Here's mine:

PG - Derrick Rose - showed in the Playoffs that even as a youngster he can step up and handle the pressure.
SG - Brandon Roy - I like the kid's attitude and he is just all over the place, and will only get better.
SF - LeBron James - I mean, this is pretty obvious.
PF - Al Jefferson - I really like how he has developed through his career, and he's had a few years in the league and is still 24. A monster on the boards and good defensive presence as well.
C - Dwight Howard - here I just look at how he is an unrivaled physical specimen. As he improves and becomes more well-rounded, he will be the type of player that ANY PG can rack up 15 assists with

Either PG or C, so either Rose or D-ho...

If I had to pick one it would be D-Ho because he creates mismatch problems and is a beast on the boards.

C-Dwight Howard-Not many good centers today so you arguably just pick the best one
PF-Amare Stoudemire-The best offensive PF in the game and sickest dunker at his position
SF-Lebron James-Enough said
SG-OJ Mayo-Going to be a star
PG-Deron Williams-Most underated PG in the league

PG - Chris Paul - I think he is in the wrong system with the wrong players, he is not as big as some other PGs (Rose, Williams) but I think he has better BBIQ and court vision. The guy can take over a game if let loose, reminds me of KJ.

SG - Dwyane Wade - Olympics. End of story, he's older... but he has some good mileage left on him.

SF - LeBron James - Not to be unoriginal, but... c'mon.

PF - Blake Griffin - I saw the guy hit his FACE on the backboard once. He's a physical freak and he's still working at it. His footwork is great and improving. He has some range which *could* be extended out to the corner. Great attitude, better work ethic.

C - Dwight Howard - Again, hard to be original here...

PG: CP3/D Will/John Wall
SG: Brandon Roy
SF: Kevin Durant
PF: Lebron James
C: Dwight Howard
- Tell me you wouldn't watch that team...

Is there no salary limits? If not:

PG: Chris Paul
Is he not the best Pg in the game today? Not to mention he is just 24. How is he not your first choice?

SG: Dwyane Wade
Hes getting older, but he is honestly the third best player in the NBA, and has a lot left to go- about 8 more years

SF: LeBron James
I dont think this one needs to be explained- best basketball player alive.

PF: Kevin Durant
This is really the only one that is debatable. KD isnt really a 4, but IS a lot like Rashard Lewis... I cant argue with Al Jefferson or Amare though... all three are really offensive juggernauts.

C: Dwight Howard
Honestly, who else do you chose?

Kevin Durant cant guard a single PF in the league. Put LeBron in your 4 spot if you're assuming theyre all playing together...

i guess so, but i wouldn't really want to start my team w/ amare or jefferson if KD is on the board.

also, no, that players i put up were NOT in a lineup.

pg = deron williams / this guy is sugar, can score, defend and is young
sg = kobe / no need to say more
sf = ron artest / defenisve minded, every opponent hates to play against him
pf = tim duncan / when healthy the best pf in this league
c = dwight / he´s still young and a freak of nature

Props to the great one

sf - Lebron James
pf - Amare (for lack of any thought, or having seen Blake Griffin play)
c - Dwight Howard

Rondo is a possibility but I think that he gets overlooked because he came to light with Allen, Pierce and Garnett there to make him look good. I'm not saying that he isn't worthy, but not just yet. He has the tools to be effective on the court, just the intangibles that you would want to base a franchise around probably aren't with him yet.

Who knows in the future though?

1st Team
PG - CP3 (24) - Love his game and really I would've taken Rose but CP3 is proven and is only 24.
SG - B.Roy (25) - The best young SG in the game and I would put him in the top 3 of SG's.
SF - Lebron (24) - It would be stupid not to go with him.
PF - Amare (26) - Still young and still got a lot to prove
C - D12 (23)- Consistent 20/10 and DPOY

2nd Team
PG - Rose (20)- The best young PG in the game. He showed a lot of promise in the playoffs.
SG - Iggy (25) - One of the top defensive 2's and a very good 2nd option.
SF - Durant (20) - Already one of the best scorers and only going to get better.
PF - Big Al (24) - Considered LMA but decided to go with Big Al.
C - Horford (23) - He's a stud at a time when there's so many big men busts.

Im hard headed, i think with D12 in the middle you can get away with more defensivly, so i would start Cp3, D Wade, Bron and Mellow can run Sf. Pf. for me either can handle both spots with thier size and athletic skill, and D12 in the middle

With only one rookie scale contract... that's the kicker.

There's not many teams that would take Rondo over any of Paul, Deron or Rose...if any
