I think this was expected when they made the Shaq trade so not surprising.

Shaq 21M
-------------
Wallace: 14M
Pavlovic: 6M
-------------
Bought out Wallace: 10M
Bought out Pavlovic: 1.25M
-------------
Savings: 9.25M
Savings including tax: 18.5M
------------
Shipping off your starting Center who gave you 18/8 every game with no one to replace him: Priceless

Money can buy you a lot of talent, but talent can also be sold for money!

Amare will replace Shaq at the C position. Remember, he was All-NBA 1st team in 2007 playing C.

And the spacing will be better without Shaq.

Plus, Frye and Lopez run the floor better than Shaq does.

Shaq was not going to average 18 PPG next year with Amare coming back and with the team going back to run and gun.

All good points, but that doesn't mask the fact that this (starting with acquiring Shaq in the first place) ended up being another PURE 100% salary dump. Much like the Kurt Thomas trade, this is just straight up salary shedding.

Plus, the pick and roll defense will be MUCH better with Lopez at C, which is why they drafted him.

The team has more than enough scoring to replace Shaq with guys like Hill, LB, J-Rich, Nash, and Amare.

How many does this leave us with under contract right now? In other words now that Pavs is gone does Sarver HAVE to sign another player, or do we just WISH he would?

Amare
Nash
J-Rich
Barbs
Hill
Dudley
Clark
Frye
Amundson
Dragic
Lopez
Griffin

12 players, that's the minimum requirement IIRC.

Don't think we'll pick up anymore FA's since Griffin got signed..

So people are now upset that Kerr finally got rid of the guy who everybody has blamed for the Suns demise over the last two years?

Every-time the Suns lost, it was:

- "Shaq missed too many easy shots."

- "His pick and roll defense cost us the game."

- "He clogs up the lane too much."

- "His ego is hurting the team."

- "The Suns should have kept Marion"

Getting rid of him could very well prove to be addition by subtraction in a run and gun system.

Even Grant Hill said "Shaq can't play that way."

It just turned out to be a bad fit and Kerr admitted it was a mistake and has moved on from the Shaq experiment.

You missed Tucker. 13 is the minimum. Suns aren't signing anyone else. At least these guys have team chemistry!!

I don't really mind losing Shaq. He's obviously still a good player but he wasn't a great fit with these players and in an uptempo offense. There are very good chances that he'll fit in Cleveland just fine with Varejao to cover for him defensively and leaving the him the offensive post touches, if he stays healthy.

That said, Kerr didn't get the type of value he coulda gotten if he used his brain for a change, shoulda went after a draft pick or Hickson as well.

He also shoulda acted like an actual GM and taken the Blazers offer instead of playing puss, RLEC woulda provided more instant cap relief, plus he coulda gotten a decent young piece in the deal like Sergio or Webster, maybe even Bayless.

I agree we should have gotten Hickson. I bet the Cavs were trying to throw Hickson in there too, but Sarver declined to save more money ;)

Hehe, I've been saying for a while now nothing was happening in the realm of trades or taking on more salary.

The Suns are set until midseason when we waive Griffin's unguaranteed salary (we are first eligible then) and try to sign either a guard or center then. Also we want to see Amare's progress and Sarver will decide to extend or trade him mid-season.

Hopefully Diesel will now accept that the trade is complete? Hehe.

We're done with moves entirely as I let you guys know after the draft. Roster is set; we only intended to sign Griffin to unguaranteed money to give us more flexibility come January and close to the trade deadline.

Shaq is long gone
Wallace never was
Pavlo is now gone
Roster is set... finally no more whining about trades (oops, we still have JRich  )

I am ready for some high octane ball.... see if it still works... we have the legs, and from the looks of it, this is going to be a 8-10 man set of horses. Gidde up

b-ball forever,

The reason Kerr rejected Portland's offer for Shaq is because Shaq refused to go there.

Just wanted to let you know why Kerr did not take their offer.

Return to Phoenix Suns
