Suns get outrebounded 50-28 against Portland

Post#1 » by statisback » Fri Oct 23, 2009 4:38 am

No surprise here.... but think we need some rebounders on this team???

Amare with a whopping 2 boards and Channing with 1 board.

Looks like the Suns are clearly the worst rebounding team in the NBA and its going to be a massive problem in the reg season.

Its amazing how Sarver and Kerr didnt see this as a problem before. If we at least kept Ben Wallace then our rebounding wouldnt be this terrible. Maybe Ben could have taught Amare how to rebound the ball and play interior D.

I'm not as concerned about the rebounding as I am about Nash doing his job on passing the ball to Amare, why did Amare only get 10 shots a game once again? I don't think he was able to get 15 shots in a game this pre-season. It's Nash's job to pass him the ball and it looks like he's just treating him as another player rather than "the man" which Amare should be.

Amare should be getting over 20 shots per game, you can say it's pre-season but if he's only getting that many attemps now I don't expect much more in the regular season. I'm just wondering why Nash isn't passing him the ball...I'm surprised he hasn't spoken out on that actually or demanded a trade to a team where he should be the number 1 focal point of offense like he should be.

How are we supposd to get rebounds when our starting center plays behind the 3 point line? I can live with bad defense, but if we can't take over possesion after a missed shot we're doomed :noway:

Our mind set has been "give a 2, take a 3" since D'Antoni first arrived. Don't expect this team to learn how to play defense any time soon people.

I'm going to wait until the regular season before I start to full out panic, but honestly all it should take is a "GET A REBOUND AMARE/FRYE, GOD MADE YOU 7 FEET TALL FOR A REASON!!!"

Speaking the truth.. Amare should be have the ball every possession on offense.

O.M.G. WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THIS!?!?!? Truly brilliant stuff, give the one guy who hogs the ball more then Kobe the ball on every possession....

In all seriousness we should try this one game, get beat by 35, then never do it again.

Amare was passing well during that comeback in the second quarter its when frye and richardson came back in and started chucking shots instead of passing around to get good looks. The players new to the system probably don't understand that 7 seconds or less doesn't mean you chuck the ball if it seems like you have it for a long time you pass it around for good efficient offensively looks and you pick and roll with nash and amare. Not nash to frye for an outside shot that will brick.

We all expected defensive problems and rebounding problems but really? They can't even get the offense right?

Lol Frye was trying to prove he should be a starter by playing his former team. Didn't turn out well.
It's pre-season. I'll let it slide.
I can't believe I'm saying this but... I can't wait for Robin Lopez to come back.

Same here. Healthy Robin Lopez is a player that we need to develop ASAP. And the thing that sucks is that he wasn't a good rebounder in college either :(

You must be outta your damn mind if you think Nash's ball distribution is a bigger problem than being out rebounded 50-28.

All Frye does is shoot 3's and camp in the perimeter where he's a total non-factor defensively. You shouldn't be questioning Nash's ball distribution when it's our coaching staff who draws up the plays where they have Frye out in the perimeter on EVERY position. Nash passes to whoever is open and it isn't his fault if Frye is just camping out there waiting for the ball. If Frye doesn't step up and start doing the work (rebounding) then we're in for a long, frustrating season.

I never thought I'd say it either, but I want Rolo back asap.

this was expected and i hope its only the case in preseason... i didnt have high expectations after i saw that even in the preseason game against the international team we got out rebounded! granted it was only by 1 (35-34) but still.. thats a good indicator.

hopefully the season will be a bit better?

Yeah with Robin back they may have actually hit the lofty 30 rebound plateua

Definitely need to rebound. Having said that, Frye "camping" out on the 3 point line on offence does not effect our DEFENSIVE rebounding so him being out there is no excuse for our dismal defensive boards.

As for Nash not distributing the ball correctly on offence? PLEASE, the system that we run has ALWAYS been who ever is open will be getting the ball, not who is the most dominant. Should it be this way? Maybe, but we wouldn't be Run N Gun if it were. Keep in mind that Frye has played a total of 7 NBA games (maybe 6, I am not sure if our 3-4 record includes the International game) with THIS team, they have also been pre-season games, so in saying that, I don't think that this will be exactly the way we play all season long.

Is 'points from offensive rebounds' an official stat.... like 'points off of turnovers' ?

That will be a tell tale stat for us. This looks like another yr where the opposition will set individual highs in the RB dept. Put a monster in the paint and he'll grab 25 boards against us.

Lets watch and see how the media reports this rebounding weakness. I hope someone asks Kerr-plunk daily.

We will be giving up SO many offensive boards. Even more than usual. It's going to be maddening.
