Why is he shooting so many threes? How do you guys feel about this? I didn't know he was a "good" three point shooter, looking at his stats... he kind of seems like a poor mans Bargnani.

Do you guys like this?

I don't mind him shooting threes if it opens up space for Amare inside, but I think the inevitable 0-9 nights are going to drive all of us crazy. And the dude needs to start REBOUNDING THE BALL!*

*applies to everybody on our team except for Lou since he already does

It's only a matter of time before Gentry gives Lou the green light to shoot 3s then we wont get any rebounds.

Jeez I'm having trouble following all the big man talk between the preseason thread, outrebounded thread, finding a big man thread, and this.

But on a more polite, non-Monday morning note lol, yes it is annoying to see your center camping out on the wing or behind the arc waiting for a frickin j shot. It would be nice to see some rebounding but it will have to come from within - Amare has to work on the boards and so does Frye. Beyond that, we are just damaging the run n' gun if we try to insert a slow, rebounding big a la Shaqtus.

I don't mind him playing 25 mins a game, predominantly next to someone like Lopez though. Besides spacing the floor, he doesn't really cover up Amare's short-comings. Frye just takes away shots from Amare, he is as good as his jump shots goes. Honestly, I feel we should have kept Shaq till his contract expired. Amare averaged nearly 30 pts in a game under D'Antoni when Shaq was traded to the team.

Call me old fashioned, but I like my PF and C to be like Reggie Evans. Big, strong, and grabbing loose 'balls'

We just need one of those rebounding specialists, a Rodman, Fortson (ok not him, but the man could rebound at an incredible rate), REvans, TChandler type who ONLY gets rebounds and blocks the odd shot/plays D

Noah looks like the ideal guy right now. But he's not going anywhere...
Pains me to say it, but seriously Erick Dampier would be fine here. Can't stand him, but he's what we need next to Amare.

Howard + Dampier for JRich + Tucker + Griffin, sign Powell.

BOOM

Frye/Dampier/Rolo
Amare/Clark/Lou
Hill/Dudley/Powell
Howard/Barbosa
Nash/Dragic/Dickau

That WOULD be a nice team, and ED's expiring too isn't he? I'd struggle to cheer for him...I remember when he was younger in IND and he used to intimidate people...now he's like the black stay puft marshmallow man

That trade doesn't work salary wise, about $7 million difference. It would need some serious fillers to get it to work. The Mavs pretty much gets killed in the deal, I doubt they would even trade Howard for J-Rich straight up. Plus, Dampier isn't an expiring, he is supposed to make 13 mil next year. I think he has like a 5% salary bump in a trade.

Frye would make a great backup C/PF with his offensive game playing next to guys like Lou and Clark who'd let him dominate the opposition's bench players, but starting next to Amare it'd be much better to have a big that just plays D and rebounds... Kurt Thomas and Marion are the bigs he's played with that fit best next to him over his career.

I hate the flopper but shoulda went after Varejao in the Shaq trade...

Possible options to go after now would be Evans/Camby/Dalembert/Collison/Boone

Camby would be awesome...the medical staff could do wonders most likely

If only we had next year's pick to sweeten a deal

Boone I'd LOVE here. Can't shoot ft if his life depended on it, but he plays HARD and he bangs which is what we need

No way Dallas does it. Not only is ED expiring, but, the way I understand it, a team can trade for him in the off-season (since his last year is actually an option) then immediately decline the option and free up all that cap space instantly. That's even more valuable than an expiring.

edit: lol @ Dampier being "ED."

edit2: a little googling lands a thread here that says Dampier's contract becomes guaranteed if:

Erick Dampier's 2010-2011 salary of $13,078,000 has no salary protection; which then increases to full if (1) player is selected to play in any three NBA All-Star Games out of the 2004-2005 through the 2009-2010 seasons or (2) player plays at least 2,100 minutes in the 70 regular season games in the 2009-2010 season in which player plays the most minutes (and if player plays in less than 70 regular season games in the 2009-2010 season, then player must play at least 2,100 minutes for the entire regular season).

and another article about the contract, which they call the DUST Chip: http://www.dallasbasketball.com/fullColumn.php?id=1810

I will now begin to wonder if getting Gortat would've helped Dallas not only by adding a center, but by allowing them to sit Dampier for longer without being obvious about it.

I was watching the TO/Cavs game and twice now BColangelo has assembled a strong cast around his core stars. Among them your boy REvans -

I found myself wishing BC had been here to put some talent around Nash/Amare/Hill

A trend that ive noticed starting from preseason, is that Frye is lights out @ home, but shoots atrociously when playing away

Geez
Frye has been "very good" from the arc.

Can he actually hit 4-5 3pts a game?

That would be insane and a record wouldnt it?

The last real "good" 3 pt shooting Center was Sam Perkins from memory.
Rasheed Wallace too.

But under the Suns system, Frye potentially can have about 10 attempts and since the opposition centers are either still running back to defend.. or inside trying to help cover for Stoudemire... Frye has a real. good chance of getting 10 OPEN looks a game..... geez.

I think he is the perfect center to play next to Amare because it spreads the floor. If Amare can get back to top form, and Frye can keep spreading the floor, our team could be dangerous. Obviously the biggest problem as always will be rebounding, but as long as we are a good rebounding team with JRich and Hill active on the boards, I think we can be ok with that lineup. Frye obviously doesn't have to be there for offensive rebounds if he is sinking 3s (and any misses he has from that range are likely to be long rebounds anyway).

It will be instructive to see how we board against someone like Boston - still, it's a tradeoff , right? We could have different personnel and be a mediocre team that rebounds better or we could be who we are. Stat seems determined, if his interest holds, Hill is there battling, Lou and Duds hustling for boards, everyone is blocking out and the guards are getting the loose balls. It's jut so crazy it might work ...
