interesting tidbit from his book, courtesy of Deadspin

My favorite Tommy Nunez story is from the 2007 playoffs when the San Antonio Spurs were able to get past the Phoenix Suns in the second round. Of course, what many fans didn't know was that Phoenix had someone working against them behind the scenes. Nunez was the group supervisor for that playoff series, and he definitely had a rooting interest.

Nunez loved the Hispanic community in San Antonio and had a lot of friends there. He had been a referee for 30 years and loved being on the road; in fact, he said that the whole reason he had become a group supervisor was to keep getting out of the house. So Nunez wanted to come back to San Antonio for the conference finals. Plus, he, like many other referees, disliked Suns owner Robert Sarver for the way he treated officials. Both of these things came into play when he prepared the referees for the games in the staff meetings. I remember laughing with him and saying, "You would love to keep coming back here." He was pointing out everything that Phoenix was able to get away with and never once told us to look for anything in regard to San Antonio. Nunez should have a championship ring on his finger.

If this is true hopefully the NBA keeps an eye on this in the future.

Sigh..yeah this sucks and I hope the NBA does something about it, but I just can't get upset about this anymore. It is what it is. Our own FO has done far more damage to our title chances than some refs anyway.

That sucks to read..

And when we were all complaining about the refs back then and people told us to quit whining (For the most part Spurs fans)..turns out we had every right in the world to complain.

I knew it THAT NIGHT of Game 3 against the Spurs.

I knew it THAT NIGHT of Game 6 against the Lakers.

I wish I could just say I was done with the NBA, but I wasted 15 years of my life building my affinity and affection for this team and this game. Now I find out that it was all basically a lie, and I'm so invested that I can't cut my losses.

This is WHY every time I hear or see David Stern; my temper just boils to an extreme. When ever this chump does leave the NBA offices, who is the new commish that will be in charge if anyone has any idea? I hope it's someone who has the mind of Roger Goodell of the NFL - I need a beer.

Game 6 against LA? That was the best game of that series (Game 7 was pretty awesome too)

You mean Game 4? That was a joke. I thought for sure we were done down 3-1.

EVERYONE AND THEIR MOTHER KNEW GAME 3 OF THE SUNS SPURS SERIES WAS FIXED.

it was so painfully obvious. All I kept saying, as well as the five others that were watching it with us some not big bball fans some die hards like me

and I quote

"there's no way this game is being called fairly. there's just no way. These calls are the worst I've ever seen. Game 3 was definitely fixed it's not even funny."

So basically with game 3 being fixed and game 5 minus diaw/amare we should've won the series and in effect probably gone on to win the title in 2007.

Well that's great. Thanks for reopening that damn scar tissue over my heart. F you nba f you spurs f you david stern f you crooked refs you all damaged us psychologically and emotionally. Oh well

I wonder if any Sun's players have read this book, especially Raja Bell. It would be cool to see his comments on it...

Grab the tinfoil hat and the "Stern <3 San Antonio" sign because Donaghy has rekindled the conspiracy theories. Funny thing is Jose Canseco had the same character issues when he wrote this expose on steroids.

So what do the Spurs fans over at their board have to say about this?

I wonder if any have the balls to show up in here ever again about this topic.

Unofficial bottom line: Suns won. Spurs lost.

I knew that series was fixed when it was going on. Stern needs to go because I'm sure he knew about it but wanted to cover his a%s.
