The steal of the 2002 draft, taken after washouts such as Jay Williams, Dajuan Wagner, and Nikoloz Tskitishvili, Stoudemire is a force in the paint despite being about 6 feet 7 inches (he’s generously listed at 6-10).

No way is he 6'7. But I do think 6'10 is generous at times. When I'm
on my pc, not my phone, I'll paste a photo that backs this up

I think he's like 6'8, maybe 6'9 but listed generously as 6'10 with shoes. Gotta remember as well that Amare was really young back when he was drafted so he may have grown an inch or so.

Def not 6-7, he mesured in @ 6-8.5 without shoes and 6-10 w/ shoes at the 2002 draft.

He prolly grew bout half an inch since then, 6-9 without shoes/6-10 with em now.

Remember, with some rare exceptions, nearly ALL listed heights in the NBA are heights in shoes.

I don't know why anyone measures themselves without shoes. What in life do you do without shoes on?

EDIT: On another note, who the hell has basketball shoes that have an inch and a half sole?

I knew someone would come out with something like that.

Let me clarify. What in life do you do without shoes on that actually requires you to know how tall you are? Or more to the point doing in a vertical manner, i.e. not horizontal.

I disagree, but only because I think a lot of listed heights are outright lies. Love this article from a while back: http://www.slamonline.com/online/kicks/2009/08/kicks-6-the-power-of-3/

Duncan, KG, and T-Mac start talking about height midway through. It's a great article all around though.

I think Nash is actually a bit below 6'2''. On TV Conan O'Brien asked him of his height and Nash answered kinda "6-2 on a good morning"

Good article. Sure, you definitely get the straight lies, but I think those only come into play with stars, and not even most stars, and thus are relatively rare exceptions. KG is one of the most famous. I remember when he hit his prime in Minny, either his coach or GM was quoted in SI as saying KG's 7'2" in shoes. It's well-known that he's insisted on being listed at 6'11" since he was a rookie so he wouldn't be thought of as a center. You can see he's an inch or two taller than Duncan when they stand next to each other, but Duncan's listed at 7'0". Even though Duncan was listed at 6'10" at Wake Forest.

McGrady always looked 6'8" to me, but KG and Duncan sound pretty sure that he's 6'10" in that interview. Hedo Turkoglu somehow went from being 6'8" with the Kings to 6'10" with the Magic. But these are the exceptions, not the rule. If you go through DraftExpress' database of pre-draft measurements and compare the "in-shoes" measurement to the player's current listed height, you'll find that they almost universally agree.

^Turk looked as tall as Howard when they were standing next to each other last year.

\Yeah Nash is listed at taller than he is, so just because he is listed at 6'3" isn't proof enough that Amare is taller than 6'7"

I however would put Amar'e maybe at 6'9. When you look at him on the court he appears to be about the same height as players who are 6'8"-6'9", but definitely taller than 6'7" and probably a bit shorter than 6'10"
