Robin Lopez Update Thread

If you find stuff of Robin and how he's doing, post it here.

From Coro's blog:

Robin Lopez's workout flame burns blue, especially when he misses shots and he fills an empty gym with his frustrated screams. The perimeter shot is a part of Lopez's game the Suns felt would develop when they got him and it does look like a smoother and even more compact motion. "I have the basic mechanics for it," Lopez said. "I definitely think I can incorporate that in my game somewhere down my career. Even if I never grow into a true offensive presence on the block, hopefully I can add a jump shot to my game, like Channing, and stretch a defense. Then I can concentrate on being inside, rebounding and blocking shots and stuff."

I really, really feel bad for Robin. Not only is he at this point the only person on the Suns who can't hit a mid-range jumper*, but the roles of the bench are getting defined really early this season and he knows he is going to have a tough time playing. Plus, with the Suns' winning ways**, it must be frustrating not to be a part of that.

* I've never seen Collins try one. Tucker theoretically is supposed to be able to...
** At least he probably doesn't wish he was his brother anymore!

If he really is working as hard as this states he is, he will be able to carve out a solid 10MPG stolen from Clark/Amundson/Frye and at some point Amar'e, depending on foul situation. If he shows that he's willing to go out there, box out, rebound, and play good D, he will get his opportunity for sure, because Gentry is a good coach and understands that players that try to earn their minutes deserve them. I'm excited, I hope the guy gets healthy and carves out a bit of a deep big role on this team, even if just enough to get his value up on how good he could be down the road, that's good enough for me.

we really need him for playoff time to bang and block shots. Kobe Bryant's arragence about how the lakers dominated the Suns in the post was an unwise remark. The 7 games in 10 nights and coming off a back to back with the game ending at midnight the night before. The game was more about the Suns being tired then how great the lakers played. But yes Robin would have helped bang down low. So yes we do need Robin down the line!

I'm still unsure about Robin Lopez. Especially since we have Collins now. Collins has more basketball IQ, but Lopez has the youth and the athletic ability in him. It'll be tough to implement him into the lineup when he gets back, especially if we keep up this hot streak. His minutes will be sporadic like Earl Clark, only playing him in certain situations, or against certain teams. I doubt he'll be a regular rotation player this year.

some people say we are not big. with Collins, Amundson, Frye, Clark, Amar'e and now RoLo coming back, I say we are pretty darn big. I'm excited to see RoLo compete for minutes. he's gonna have to hustle and make some shots in order to make the rotation.

Lopez is a lost cause, I remember still sitting in front of my TV during the 2008 draft saying anyone but Lopez and sure enough

So yeah I'm not expecting much from him, the Suns are playing well without him so I don't see why they should put him in the rotation since it may disrupt chemistry. Maybe some team wants to take a chance on him and the Suns could fix the mistake by getting a mid to late first, if not try trading him for another young guy who's not doing so well on another team.

I'm sure RoLo is realizing he's gonna have to bust his tail for minutes on this team. Frye has been a pleasant surprise and Lou is as solid as last year. RoLo, no more excuses, you're gonna have to bring it buddy, if you wanna be part of this team.

Any word on RoLo? He should be out for what, another month now?

I thought he was only supposed to be out 8 weeks? It's been about 7 if I recall.

Yeah it was 8 weeks..I couldn't remember when he was first injured. another week or 2 would be nice..I just hope they don't bring him in and have him jumpshooting. Cause when I was at the Suns-Wiz game he was out on the floor taking 18 footers. I was thinking PRACTICE THAT REBOUNDING AND D BUDDY

But yeah it will be interesting to see if he can come in and make an impact - or if he's too late to claim a spot in the roto, what with Collins showing some stuff and your usual Lou/Amar'e/Frye minutes.

Obviously I think he should take almost all of Collins' potential minutes because we need to see if we have a future rotation player on our hands, and we need to develop him - especially with him missing 8 weeks of his formative stage here.

IIRC, Rolo is cleared to join practice this Saturday. Depending on his conditioning, it'll probably take him a couple of weeks to get back into game shape.
source (It's mentioned under Free throws)

We need him, he's our tallest player by far. Hopefully he can come in and grab some boards because nobody else seems to want to.

Coro:
Robin Lopez is participating in his 1st full-contact practice & looking good. But Earl Clark's early-practice slam is the day's highlight.

Putting paper bag back over my head in shame....

My god, I forgot all about Frolo ... can Sideshow Rob be the Missing Piece?

Seriously - interior defense and rebounding ..... weren't' those alleged to be his strengths?
How long do you reckon it will take him to get into useful shape?
