"Seven seconds or less" was a bit of a fallacy too. The Suns' target was 14 seconds, the time that then-coach Mike D'Antoni put on the shot clock in scrimmages.
Up-tempo offense no longer shocks opponents' systems. More teams play faster than they did at the outset of the Nash-D'Antoni pairing. Hill noted how teams are better prepared for it.
"Maybe we'll be good enough on defense where everybody will start playing defense like us too," Hill said.

Having Marion really helped with fastbreaks because he could break away so quickly, how many times have we seen the opposing team celebrate a quick dunk or layup and then have Marion sneak past for a easy dunk on the ensuing play.

14 may have been the target in practice, but SSOL referred to how quickly we usually scored in transition during games.

The idea that we're not running as much b/c our wings have to stay and rebound suggests that maybe our bigs should step up and rebound the ball themselves! Boxing out so that Rich and Hill can get the rebound is nice, but boxing out so that YOU can get the rebound and then throw it down the court to a streaking Hill or Rich is even better.
Man, our bigs suck at rebounding.

Boxing out for wings does NOT feed the fast break. Good solid rebounding IN THE PAINT speeds the process up. While a 3 point specialist at the 5 spot may seem like a good complement to a scoring team, I completely agree that without a rebounding big you are just gonna clog up the fast break.
A more ideal starting 5 for that reason would be
PG Nash
SG Barbs
SF Rich
PF Hill
C Amare
or Amar'e and Lou at the 4 and 5. Or even Duds/Hill/Amare at 3/4/5
This way you have 3 VERY solid 3 point threats to spread the backcourt, and you start Hill or Lou in the frontcourt to do the dirty work. Frye still plays his minutes but does not start.
Not saying I want this rotation, plus if it ain't broke don't fix it, but that's just a little bit of brainstorming.
Then you slide your guys down position-wise as you make subs. Frye comes in and still plays his minutes, but he does so with a slightly different complementary lineup.

our bigs are suck rebounders but our swingmen are decent passers - the bigs can break downcourt, at least Amar'e can. Not ideal but ..... also it occurred to me the other night while watching the game that while we aren't getting the fastbreak like we did, we do now have a decent halfcourt offense. Which is a nice thing for the playoffs

Now, what I have been observing with the new Suns is official: despite scoring so much, we are NOT a running team a la DA's anymore. And we adjust to situations when Nash is cut off from doing his things by going to isos with Amare, which is a great way to prepare for playoffs anyway. Keep up the good work, Gentry, and Nash, and Amare..!

why don't we run the nash to barbs backdoor on the baseline cut anymore? we used to run that thing once a game back in the day.
