Suns Future Point Guard

Chris Paul

Nash's deal is up in the summer of 2012, the same summer Paul becomes a free agent. Paul will definitely want out of NO by then, and in the tradition of Phoenix always having a premier pg (except the Marbury era), who better to continue the tradition than Paul?

I know some of you want Dragic to be the future, but I think I'd rather have Paul....what do you think?

Seriously...do we need a thread like this?

There's a VERY good chance Paul isn't a Hornet by then.

Not to mention "I think I'd rather have Paul"

Not even Dragic's mother would pick him over Paul....

Let's be realistic. Dragic is the future of this franchise at PG, whether you agree with it or not; and I'm starting to believe that it could be a good enough future with him here.

Can the suns afford Chris paul? Amare will have his max extension and then Chris paul would want his too. that alone is around 40million a year for both of them.

Ok Dragic lovers out there. I know he has been a nice backup PG, but lets be realistic about two things here. He is not our future if we want to have a future as a contender. Think of Beno Udrih. Yes, he is a starter, but for a horrible team. So, that is how he is our future for a horrible team or we have a stud SG that can offset his game like a Roy or JJ.

Second of all, the pipedream of CP3 has to stop. Yes, we have had great PG's here that have never won a championship. Its a medium market, not a large market which he might go to. I do think he will get traded before he opts out of his contract. NO is a dead franchise and I think it will leave the city in the next decade for a different market. Maybe Seattle?

You dont need an elite point guard to win it all

DFish?
Rondo?

Build around dragic with game changers, he can handle his position fine in 3 years.

That's right. 2. Underlined... He's not a stud, but he's gonna be solid enough. I see a trend in teams that win it all in that they all seem to have a dominant big. Sometimes 2. I'd rather have an above average point guard (maybe not a star) but draft/pick up the shiz of a center. Amare ain't it. He gets the ball stripped way too much, doesn't rebound enough, and doesn't play good enough defense

Kareem
Hakeem
David Robinson
Tim Duncan
Shaq in his youth
Pau/Bynum
KG

But then again they did all have a great 1-3 on all of those teams too...

We need to build through the draft for the future, Dragic will be a career 13/3/6/1.5 guy as a starter if he's given the chance, which is good enough as long as you have the Center and one of the SF/SG position filled with a guy of superstar calibre (we have Amar'e, which is a good start).

I look at the top PGs in the game and how are their teams doing.

Paul - Hornets arnt doing too good (except now, when he's out)
Deron - Jazz dont look too hot
Harris - Nets are ......um.... Whats the exact opposite of undefeated?
Nash - Suns are doing great so far, but we've seen how this turns out in the end year after year after year.
Kidd - Mavs are doing good, Kidd is averaging like 6 points a game though.

Look at the teams that have won the title recently.
DFISH - Above average
Rondo - Above average
Parker - Nothing special/ Above average
Miami - i cant even remember who their starting PG was!

Hell, the Magic was close to a title and that was with Rafer Alston!

All those teams have 2 things in common when they won. A superstar big that can anchor the defense, and a wing that can score at will.

Kobe/Bynum
Pierce/KG
Manu/Tim
Wade/Shaq
Hedo/Howard

Don't forget how close the Cav's were with Eric Snow at the PG and LeBron/Z.

+3 what?? WHAT?? underlined, bolded, and italisized. WHAT!!

seriously tho, i agree. and i think he will be a stud, just not to the star level.
Allnba > allstar
allstar > star
star > stud
stud > or = above average starter
AAS > average starter
average starter > good bench player
good bench player > any other sucky bench player.

thats right. i just perfectly explained the NBA ranking system to the whole world.

Seems like he's been tormenting us for 10 yrs already
