The last couple of games, seems like Suns been running way more then the first 13 games of the season. Is it safe to assume they found their true identity and will run more often then before or is it just certain teams they're playing which they can run and gun more often because they feel comfortable.

I don't think we'll be back to true SSOL/RnG until our bigs start rebounding. This little circus act of our bigs boxing out while our wings rebound makes our rebounding numbers look slightly more impressive (as evident of the number of games where we were +-5 rebounds against our opponents) but it does affect our ability to run a proper fast break.

We're not as quick as we were in the prime of SSOL but I think we're a little bit more comfortable in the half court offensive set because of the spacing created by our 3PT shooters. It actually kinda defies logic that if our bigs can box out, why can't they just rebound themselves then? It's nice spreading the rebounding "wealth" but it has slowed our fast breaks.

I've noticed the past couple of games, once Channing Frye grabs a board he quickly passes it off to Nash and they start running on a fast break. Seemed like other games he would just grab the board and take about a a second or two to pass it to our pg. It's great watching whenever Frye doesn't hesistate to shoot the ball or pass to an open man.

That's fine if Frye or Amare grabs the rebound with our wings already running but "gang rebounding" will inevitably slow down a fast break and at times shut it down completely.

Yeah, I completely agree.

So what. As long as we are numero uno in offensive, who cares how we score?

Having Matrix on our team was truly a luxury for the SSOL system. He would grab a rebound and look straight to Nash who would be running and we'd already have two other guys racing past mid-court. On top of that, Trix and Amare, who would be a bit slower to get back on offense, would trail very closely and finish any missed layups.

We are better offensive team than any of DA's era despite running far less. We have way more tools than just speed.

--- I'm with you. I don;t mind the true SSOL style being retired if we have a more effective half-court game, which we now do. In years past if someone shut down SSOL we were screwed - not so much the case now.
The rebounding - yeah, it's goofy as hell but if it works it works. I don't think it will, all season. If you're 6'9"-7' then put your damn hands up and go after the ball. Except Frye, who's closer to half-court than the baseline - no knock, that's how we play the guy.

Maybe things will improve on the boards when Sideshow gets back.

we're a good hybrid right now of everything we did well, and things we needed to shore up on. this is what i was hoping for last season -- maintain our offense while focusing a little bit more on defense.

Yeah I'm not sure about the numbers in terms of giving up 2nd chance points compared to years before, but if this new rebounding "system" limits opponent 2nd chance points the I'm OK with the lower fast break points. We play better in the half-court now anyway. So ya know, addition by subtraction?

80% Suns are back but I still have to see if Amare is determined and Nash's injury.
