OT: Blazers going to implode?

Post#1 » by justinb80 » Tue Dec 1, 2009 1:33 pm

From all the various reports coming out, it sounds like the Blazers may be facing some real chemistry issues. In particular, Brandon Roy is coming off as a me-first ass. In the latest, he says, "I think we need to establish a pecking order offensively," which basically means, "I need to get the ball first." That'd be a sad state of affairs, and I hope these reports about Roy are basically out of context, because he's one of my favorite players in the league.

He's probably my 3rd favorite player in the league and I would hate to see his team implode.

Fact is, he's suppose to be the franchise player (not LMA) and he's actually taking less shots this season. I didn't like the way he described their offensive options as a "pecking order" but every possession should go through him since he has proven he's an excellent facilitator and scorer.

I think he's just venting some of that frustration from losing games but since I haven't watched any Blazers basketball this season yet, I can't say for sure.

I didn't see why they couldn't promote from within. Sergio would have been a great starting PG in that system - in the sense that he wouldn't take away from the "pecking order" :-? and could have blossomed into a great pass-first.

I think they should have gone after Ben Gordon. Gordon+Roy=SICK.

Yummy

In a way, though, Gordon only makes the aforementioned problem worse.

You are putting a big scorer next to Roy, in front of Rudy, etc.

They didn't need to use the cap space imo. But if they did I thought Turkoglu would've been a nice signing. I think there was talks about an Outlaw for Hinrich deal, that would've been sweet.

I think they should have just sat on their cap space as well.

They should end the charade of needing a point guard. Roy is their main facilitator and they should move him to that spot permanently. They'll always be a team of a handful of guys who each get 4 to 5 assists a game, rather than one guy who gets 12.

I agree, why don't they just move Roy to the PG spot since he likes handling the ball most of the time anyway?

They have some good pieces but I think this shows you can't just throw talent on the floor and expect wins. The Suns should go after Bayless, it looks like he's having trouble getting playing time behind Roy, Miller, Blake and Fernandez. He would be great in the Suns system, wonder what they could offer?

Well the Blazers are really in need at the 3, so maybe Jared Dudley. But I don't think I'd do that if I were the Suns. Maybe, if you thought Bayless would end up a real point guard.

Eh, Duds is definitely on our list of untouchables. You could not find better value pretty much anywhere in the league. He's on this list with GHill, Nash, Lou and Raja (oh wait :( )

I am a big fan of Bayless, but no way to this deal. If we plan to trade LB this season, I hope its for someone who fits our needs, like Camby.

Camby is a bit overated hes an inefficient black hole on offense and not as good a defender as his stats make him out to be and Robin Lopez can play the role of big guy off the bench (we dont want to bench Frye for a big rebounding/post guy it would destroy a lot of how we work right now)

Bayless is a hometown boy and is gonna be a hell of a scoring guard he can take the Barbosa role off the bat its not like we have that many minutes for LB anyways

Camby's defense is a little overrated(DPOY caliber), but he is a good post defender though. He is also one of the best rebounder, shot blocker in the league. I am not sure how he is an inefficient black hole on offense. He has decent range and is a good passer from the top of the key. I love what this team is doing right now, but I think we need a player like Camby to get to the another level. We have been gambling on the boards, a really good team can exploit us some nights. If only Lopez could grow into that "first big off the bench" role.

Bayless doesn't have the value to demand LB right now. He can't even get off the bench right now, I think healthy LB is nearly perfect fit for the bench.

The Blazers don't need LB. They already have Bayless. What they need is a three.

Also, and I know I've said this in another thread, but why in the crap would anyone want to trade some of our best young talent (LB) for an old guy like Camby? I love what the Suns are doing this year, but I still don't think they're winning a championship. You make a trade like that ONLY if you think it's going to result in a championship. Otherwise, it's just killing your team's future prospects.

--- Yes indeed - I wish they would figure out what the hell they're doing with Sergio. I like the guy - hate to see him in limbo

Agree with the Ben Gordon idea - that would have been a merciless backcourt
