If you think "Nash" gets all the credit for this Run and Gun system your completely delusional. D'antoni is the father, while Nash is the son. The father tells the son what to do/ how to play while the Son listens carefully and succeeds on the basketball court because of his mentor. That's is exactly what D'antoni had done with Nash in Phoenix. Now by no means am I stating without D'antoni Nash wouldn't be what he is today but I highly doubt under another coach ( not named Jackson or Popovich) Nash would be sporting 2 league MVP's right now.

D'antoni needs a guy like Nash to be successfull while Nash doesn't need D'antoni. When Gentry was coach of the Clippers he ran an uptempo game, if he was coach in 04 instead of D'antoni, Nash probably would have been an even better player considering Gentry likes depth and teaches defense. D'antoni is a used car salesman, he used Nash to a get a huge pay day in NY and now people are finally realizing he was a fraud.

So in other words, Nash is the system. There was never "D'antoni's system".

Jesus I wish this forum had a summary feature so I could read all the discussion of the same topics without opening 10 threads. I'm a working man, people
EDIT: Which reminds me of the Chapelle quote (for some reason) "I wish I had more hands, so I could give them titties four thumbs down!!"

I wouldn't call it a D'Antoni or Nash system. I believe it is more of a joint venture. The Suns historically have always been a running team and have always had a great point guard that looked to get assists as well as be able to score. As far as the most recent era, Nash and D'Antoni, if you really watched the games it was always Nash and D'Antoni discussing the game during time outs and or any breaks in the action. So I think it was the combination of the two. Nash pretty much does what he wants on the court, that is part of what makes him so great. He does not have to follow set plays, he is able to read the other teams defense and attack how he sees fit, depending on the players that were on the court with him at the time, that is all Nash. Now on the other hand, D'Antoni was/is a master of drawing up plays right after time outs or to begin the game or after halftime. So I really don't think you can say it more one than the other, but rather the combination of the two that made it all work.
While some of you will say, yeah but look at them now, Nash has the Suns on top of the league and D'Antoni has the Knicks at the bottom. You first better look back to last year and see how ineffective Nash was under Porter. As for D'Antoni, his Knicks do not have the caliber of playmaker that Nash is. The only real difference between the two is Gentry. What I mean by that is while D'Antoni does not have the playermaker he needs for the system to work, Nash DOES have the coach he needs to make the system work.

How does a coach telling his team to run more, spread the floor and shoot 3's get called 'his' system? The guy didn't coach D, didn't play his bench and ran away when Kerr told him to spend more time on D. Look what Gentry is doing, at least they're trying on D.
