Driving Record, Speeding/Other Tickets

Every once in a while I like to post a "get to know everyone" thread. This time it is about a sore spot for me, driving records and infractions.
I just got yet another speeding ticket so I am not too thrilled about my "cost of driving"
So yeah, I'm a speeder. I've gotten probably 10 speeding tickets in the last 6 years, plus a LOT of warnings and one for driving on the wrong side of the road.
The one for driving on the wrong side was stupid, I forgot something at the drive thru so I turned left out of the exit driveway and pulled back into the entrance driveway - without crossing back to the right side of the road. Wasn't really that serious of an offense, but he slapped me with the driving on the wrong side which in Georgia (where I was at the time) results in suspension or seizure of your license. Had to suit up and go to court. I got SO lucky because the court messed up and lost my plea so I was the last one in the courtroom and the judge was like "I don't have any paperwork for you", then continued to say that I was very polite and was the only one who had worn a full suit so he would forget about it. SO lucky, considering I couldn't even get a lawyer for that offense since the charge was so serious that the cheapest lawyer that would take my case was $1200.
Then I move to DC and speed around, only to realize they have speed cameras everywhere. I got my first speed camera ticket in the mail and I was like damn I know I'm gonna have like a dozen more coming in, and yes so far I have 2 more. I may not pay the most recent one because they don't boot your car unless you have more than 2 outstanding...I'm so bad
But seriously, I've thought about selling my car and just taking public transportation. And with too many more charges, I might have to anyway.
Not to mention I've been sent back to driving school twice to get 2 of my tickets expunged.
Who else here is a "road warrior"

My wife has gotten a speeding ticket every 6 months or so since getting her license. I think she's up to 13-15ish. I've gotten 3 tickets in my entire life. More off of luck than anything

They say there's no such thing as "safe speeding," but I do it. I've never gotten a ticket before so I would say I am a safe speeder. I've only started driving about 5 years ago so I guess it's not that big of a deal that I haven't gotten a ticket yet, but it's nice to know my record is still clean.

Stealing cars is a more serious charge
No just kidding - my car is still registered to my father because the insurance is much cheaper to keep it as a "household car" in north carolina than as an individual car in the much-more-expensive DC (don't tell my insurance company) - so anyway, he gets the photo tickets but he ain't payin for that s*# - he used to when I was in high school but stopped paying after my 5th ticket

so I still have to pay them

Damn dude 10 tickets? LOL. Good thing you don't live here or it'd be 30. There's a damn camera on every other intersection these days ecspecially in Scottsdale.

I've got 2 tickets. One was speeding in a small town in Utah and the cop turned around from the other side of the highway. I was going about 81 in a 65. The other was on the 60 in tempe and I was going 77 in a 65. I would have got off of that one, but I had a warning about a month previous for going 38 in a 25. In high school I totaled my parents mini van because there was a car turning left into a neighborhood and there wasn't a turn lane. It was raining and I didn't stop in time. I never get caught by the photo radar things because they tell you they give you warning when you are about to reach one and so just slow down for a minute and then you can speed up again.

I've got a few tickets when I first began driving. After that I haven't really got anything serious since I pay attention to the road more then before.
When I first started driving I was kinda always driving fast and trying to show off. Well one day after bball at a park I was driving back and the road was kind of curvy and I was driving about 40-50mph on a 15mph road. So long story short, my car swerved and I ended up hitting a tree pretty badly. I thought Id died or something but It turns out I was left without any serious injury. By the way, Ginobliflops( on this board) was driving behind me and saw the whole thing.

Sorry to hear about this. Yes, as much as I was lighthearted talking about getting around 10 tickets, those kinds of events are always very sobering. I had one of those myself - I used to show off with my friends, racing and stuff, but was riding with my friend one day when he flipped the car twice going 85 in a 30 and it slid into a tree and another car. Regaining consciousness only to be hanging upside down by a seatbelt - I never showed off again after that. Now my tickets are just the running late or trying to cut down a 5 hour trip home, etc. But even that is a little out of control. I really need to get a handle on it.

I took the North Carolina test so I wouldn't know about AZ..they aren't that hard though. Look at all the idiots out there on the road everywhere, it's not rocket science. Then again my mom's friend failed 3 times LOL

There's an easy solution to your problem. Stop driving like a *#$^@*& idiot. I got one speeding ticket that was pretty much ridiculous a year or so after i started driving, and it made me realize that speeding isn't worth it. Its pretty much been proven that unless you're driving super long distances, speeding doesn't really benefit you in any way. You're most likely still going to hit the same lights as if you were driving like a non-retarded person. The worst is when people drive on your ass in the slow lane acting like its your problem because they can't be bothered to pass you, but would rather drive on your ass and get pissed off. One of the most hilarious things I see on a daily basis is people speeding up to get to a red light faster. I'm pretty sure 50% of people shouldn't have a fricking license.

Haha yeah it's a pretty expensive habit too. I must say I'm not one of the tail riding type of people. But if there's an open lane I'll take advantage of it.
Yeah many studies show that because of the traffic light patterns, the lights optimize the traffic flow so that at the posted speed limit, you would hit every light that is timed for you. Unfortunately on my commute back into the city, the lights are timed so that the pack of traffic hits every red - a way to slow down the streams of cars going towards the center of the city to avoid mass congestion closer into the city. So I've determined the only way to actually beat a red is to go 15 over. Anyhoo, driving slow is just boring and it takes longer to get everywhere.

The state I live in is ridiculously strict when it comes to fines to the point where it's hard not to agree with ppl who just call it "revenue raising" for the government. Just wondering how the system works where you're from.
In Victoria they only allow a 2% differential. So if you're in a 100 km/hr area they will give you a ticket if you're doing more then 102 km/hr. This used to be 10% about 10 years ago. They also adjust the speed limit along the same stretch of road a ridiculous amount of time. If a main road is considered a "school zone" then it's not uncommon for it to go from 80km/hr to 40 km/hr.
We also have *both* speed and red light cameras on some intersections. So if you speed and run a red light you can say a big "ouch!".
Not sure whether every country runs a demerit system but we get 12pts for a rolling 3 year period then you can kiss your license goodbye. Speeding, less than 10 km/hr over is 1 pt. Over 10km/hr is 3pts. Over 25 km/hr you can kiss your license goodbye straight away. Speaking on the phone is 3 pts. So it's impossible to rack up the number of fines some of the others were talking about without losing your license.
Anyway I got my first ticket for ages this year. It had been 3 or 4 years since my last speeding fine but I racked up about 3 in 3 months back then. I always use cruise control on free-ways unless it's peak-hour. If anything ppl have become too cautious here for my liking. Irritates the crap outta me if someones doing 95 km/hr in the right hand lane on a freeway without having the courtesy to move lanes. Considering little things frustrate me while I drive I've got a pretty good record.
