Some Suns thoughts from Shawn Marion

http://www.azcentral.com/sports/suns/ar ... notes.html

Paul Coro wrote:Marion kept in contact with former teammates and watched the Suns' 108-88 loss to the Lakers on Sunday.

"It's not the same," he said. "When I was there, they knew we were coming to beat them. Now they ain't even thinking about the Suns."

The Suns acknowledge they are not the fast-break team they were with Marion.

"That first year (2004-05), I don't think nobody could ever get that fast," Marion said. "We had Q (Quentin Richardson), Joe (Johnson), Amar'e (Stoudemire), me and Steve (Nash). They've never been able to duplicate that. We were getting the ball out so fast. Amar'e was in the lane. I was trailing for 3s, and Q and Joe were sprinting to the corners like no one else. They knew they were going to get a 3. We'd be down 20 points and be like, 'Nah, we can come back in two, three minutes.' "

It's sort of disheartening to read something like that from him, after hearing so much about how unhappy he was in the locker room. It was always great to watch Marion play well in those Suns teams.

Barbs does a pretty good job of being the first man across mid court. Hill can too if he isn't rebounding.

But the other team has to be missing shots and the rebound going to us.

It is sad to see the old SSOL team broken up but I like where we're headed. But the fact is, there was no way we could've kept Trix here even if our owner was Mark Cuban. I don't think Cuban would've given Trix the kind of extension he was asking for. In short we chose Amare over Trix, which was the right call, but it's definitely disheartening to hear Trix talk about the old squad and think about what could've been.

Well, nothing last forever and in sports, things end even quicker - those few years with the SSOL teams were up there with the Showtime Lakers at their peak and we were just damn lucky to be here to watch them play.
But yeah, I miss them too. I can'[t even watch the replays on NBA-TV. They just showed the Mavs-Suns game 5 again

I really loved that 04'-'05 team. It would never have beaten the Spurs, but I loved it and I have no doubt that team would have reached the finals the next year if Amare wasn't crippled.

Yeah I think that was ridiiiculous. Isn't his agent Dan Fegan or someone good like that?? Wonder if he tried to talk Matrix down during all that BS...

by JohnVancouver on Wed Dec 09, 2009 11:10 am "Well, nothing last forever and in sports," The reason nothing lasts forever is because idiots like Marion back then, and soon to be Stat, selfishly price themselves out of reach of the team the supposedly love. If Marion's mind was on winning a championship, and not the biggest pay day he could get, we could have kept him, at a reasonable price, and used some money to get the team he loved an extra piece or two to help, instead of having to break up and try to go another way.

Yeah that team as great but like you guys say, they never would've beaten the Spurs and never would've won a title.

Now the 2007 team . . . they should have a title right now (if not for dirty tricks). They ran almost as fast but they also had size.

It was a great feeling to know you could be down 20 against anyone and still come back in a matter of minutes. This team has that against the weaker teams due to sheer fire power, but I don't feel confident about coming back on the good teams.

Yeah he definately goes down as one of the best Suns of all time. Easily.

And he was one of the most important parts of the SSOL. His value went beyond measure for those teams. Probably the 2nd most important player throughout those years.

BUT at the end of the day, he's not the player he used to be and he wouldn't be the same player here, so it's not that I really miss him on this current team.

Marion just seems bitter about being gone from us and seeing us still play good ball (despite our recent struggles and our loss to his team, but he shot 33% and got 10 points). He was also bitching about Heat too.
