Suns-Bobcats deal reflection.

After a year, how do you guys feel about the trade?

Was Bell and Diaw (and Singletary) worth giving up for J-Rich and Dudley (and Charlotte's 2010 2nd rounder)?

Doris had one of the most untradeable contracts in the league at the time because of his production, they didn't just get J-Rich they got Dudley and a 2010 second rounder. I was expecting alot less, great trade though, probably the best move Kerr has ever made.

I wish J-Rich had a little more explosion too.

I think we got Charlotte's '10 2nd rounder also.

JRich can drive me a bit crazy at times, but most of the time I really like what he's brought to the Suns backcourt. Paid too much, but so is about a fifth of the NBA.

Dudley...a great catch.

Good deal made

Trade was worth it just to get Dudley.

Diaw is still off the team, what's not to like?

Richardson would be many shades of awesome if he was 6'10, lol. As is, he's reasonably good if we post him, get him running and finishing in transition and taking open 3s. Gentry seems to know how to use him.

When Jared Dudley is the star of the trade, you know the trade sucks.

Jason Richardson costs games. Directly. I can't stand him.

jrich is so streaky that it's kind of annoying for people who actually have basketball iq to watch. I like duds though. Diaw had to go though because he became a fat cat once he got his payday.

Diaw played well after being traded to the Bobcats but this season he isn't producing much. Maybe it has to do with him not being in shape before training camp?

That out of shape news where pretty much BS. He wasn't in his best shape to play because ankle in pre-season - that was all. Diaw is being day and night tis year having games with 10-12 shooting followed by quiet 1-6 but one thing which usually works is that he boxes out to help Crash gather the rebounds.

I still maintain Boris was the best player in that deal, but Dudley is awesome. Richardson....man. It's so easy to see why someone would love the guy, but I just don't.

Good read.

I think when you talk about who was most talented in that deal, it's a highly debatable question because all 4 players are so different. Talent-wise and ignoring lack of effort (coughdiawcough) and Suns fans biases (I still maintain that JRich is better than many here say he is, though I must agree wholeheartedly with the assertion that he has ZERO b-ball IQ), I would put them in this order:

Diaw
Rich
Duds=Bell

If you look at them as current players, I'd have to put them in this order:

Rich
Diaw=Duds
Bell

At the time, we hated this deal. When you take into account team chemistry and player roles, it was a tough trade to make at the time. Ultimately I do think the trade was in our favor, though.

Her's not my favourite player but he's won me over. I still resent the $$$ he sucks out of us but i can't complain about his effort. I wish they'd hurry up with that brain-transplant technology though. He still does some forehead-slappingly dumb things.

You're right, his effort is much improved this season, and I'm actually pretty surprised at his defense. It's his tendency to start chucking bad shots that just ticks me off a lot.

+1 on all of your JRich thoughts there.

Was disappointed to see Diaw go but I really thought it was time to trade Raja (regardless of who was our coach). He'd been struggling for a long time and we got pretty good value back for Diaw and Raja.

I would say we got the better of the trade but it's not like we creamed it. 2 of our rotation players but 1 guy wasn't getting the mins he should or deserved and the other wasn't the defender he used to be so he ended up being just a 3pt shooter. We got back a player who is essentially Raja with athleticism and more size and Dudley who is starting to be that hustle player. Has nowhere near the skill level or feel for the game that Diaw does but it's just so hard not to like him especially when he's sinking his shots.

Kerr got this one right, for once!
