Unacceptable move by Alvin Gentry

Post#1 » by DirtyDez » Sun Dec 13, 2009 4:43 am

I don't care how bad the reffing is. You can't implode when your team still has a chance to win. Stupid turnovers and not being able to rebound cost us this game.

Outside of the moment, yes it's a bad move, but he was doing what any coach should be doing.

2 seconds left with a good chance of being down by 4. Bad move maybe, but the odds of the Nuggets missing 1 FT, the Suns actually getting a rebound (unlikely), and then pulling off a long wild 3 for a tie are very slim. The officials weren't letting the Suns away with this one. If this had gone to OT, Amare is out with foul 6 within a minute.

Announcer said Gentry 'Had to be restrained'

I don't blame him at all.

I'm a Gentry guy and understand pertecting your players but honestly the game was too close to implode. We'd prob be down by 4 but still, did we have a timeout left?

I think we had a 20. Dumb move by Gentry but totally understandable. He did what all of us did...just completely spazzed out.

If we did have the timeout, I don't know if it would have mattered. It took forever for them to foul, which left no time.

No, you explode. You sacrifice to make a point. Besides, being down 4 points with 2 seconds left will not get you close to a chance to win. If they don't call a foul on that Nash play, what makes anyone think they're going to call a foul on a made three for a possible four point play?

I actually like what Gentry did. There was only 2 sec left, and they were going to the line for 2 shots anyway... its obv the refs were not going to call it right even if we were to push it to an overtime.

I'd rather Gentry stick up for Nash and make a point about the officiating then to be soft and just let it slide.

They took too much time to foul anyways. It was completely understandable.

The officiating in that game...well, the announcers on NBALP were talking about how badly Karl had worked the refs over the whole game

Gentry's outburst may get the Suns some calls later in the season. You gotta stick up for one of the only two guys who showed up tonight; especially your 2-time MVP.

He should had been tossed for the call that said Nene never touched the ball out of bounds when he clearly did touched it and did knock it out of bounds.

+1.

Its kinda like Dragic. In the beginning of the season they always called non-foul fouls on him. He wouldnt argue, he would just walk away. He finally learned to stand up to the Ref's and let them know that they are wrong. Now less fouls called on him. I was going ape-sh*t watching this game and would have lost my mind if Gentry just sat there doing nothing. Glad to see him stick up for the team when the is injustices being made.

If they had a full time out they may have had a chance but you can't advance the ball with a 20. I probably would have been pissed and gotten ejected if I was in Gentry's position and I think the Suns were expecting a foul call on that last play and they couldn't really believe it was a non call which led to them taking so long to foul.

With us down by 2 and them going to the line, I'm glad Gentry did what he did. To let it slide would be for our team/coach to say the reffing was not an issue. My feed was terrible with about 2min left so I couldn't see the last Nash lay up but before that, but there were multiple calls that either went their way or fouls against us that were non-calls.

I think most NBA teams have a thing where if the coach gets a tech then the players pay the fine for their coach since he's protecting them and I can guarantee our guys would have no issue whatsoever with paying that fine seeing the result of tonight.

Gentry did the right thing. Any sane coach would have did what he did and got upset, the Suns had a 17 point lead and blew it. Let's not blame the refs, the Suns lost this game on their own...

So the coach getting tossed is better than Melo possibly missing a FT, us getting the rebound and calling timeout to get the ball at half court and have a chance to tie or win? The reffing was bad but our performance down the stretch was awful and coach topped it off at the end. The coach has to keep his composure and now he's probably regretting it.

He just imploded at the wrong time. He should have done what Karl did, and get one tech in the middle of the game. When all off the calls went one way for the second half, he had plenty of time to get a tech. I hope he takes a fine and says something about the horrible officiating. I say the whole team does.
