The December 15th Trade Talk Thread

Post#1 » by Miklo » Tue Dec 15, 2009 2:54 pm

There's been some talk about trades and rumors scattered throughout the board. I thought it could be useful to bring it all into one thread, where we can mention rumors we hear and speculate on who might be traded.

If the mods disagree they can bring down the ban hammer - or at least lock it up

To start off, I'm going to draw from an article on ESPN to post a list of players who just became available 10 hours ago. (http://espn.go.com/nba/dailydime/_/page/dime-091112-13/weekend-dime-players-soon-trade-eligible)

Free Agent Signings Now Available for Trade:

• Atlanta Hawks: Mike Bibby, Jason Collins, Zaza Pachulia, Joe Smith and Marvin Williams

• Boston Celtics: Marquis Daniels, Glen Davis, Rasheed Wallace and Shelden Williams

• Charlotte Bobcats: None

• Chicago Bulls: Lindsey Hunter and Jannero Pargo

• Cleveland Cavaliers: Jamario Moon, Anthony Parker, Leon Powe and Anderson Varejao

•Houston Rockets: Trevor Ariza

• Indiana Pacers: Dahntay Jones, Solomon Jones, Josh McRoberts and Earl Watson

• Los Angeles Clippers: Steve Novak

• Los Angeles Lakers: Ron Artest, Shannon Brown and Lamar Odom

• Memphis Grizzlies: Marcus Williams

• Miami Heat: Joel Anthony and Jamaal Magloire

• Milwaukee Bucks: Carlos Delfino, Ersan Ilyasova and Hakim Warrick

• Minnesota Timberwolves: Ryan Hollins and Ramon Sessions

• New Jersey Nets: None

• New Orleans Hornets: Ike Diogu and Sean Marks

• New York Knicks: None

• Oklahoma City Thunder: Kevin Ollie

• Toronto Raptors: Jarrett Jack, Rasho Nesterovic and Hedo Turkoglu

And elsewhere in the article ESPN takes a stab at the 5 players from the above list who they think are most likely to be traded:

2. Nate Robinson, New York Knicks

3. Marcin Gortat, Orlando Magic

4. Brandon Bass, Orlando Magic

With what Kerr has said recently, I doubt we're going to make any moves until the situation calls for it. We're playing above expectations and we're not contending this season so I don't see us making any moves. There's gonna be a lot of Amare trade talks but I don't think there'll be anything serious this early in the season.

I agree. Even though Kerr is full of his fair share of crap, there's really no reason to pull the trigger on anything right now. Maybe some juicy gossip from around the league will come up, but I doubt it will have to do with us.

I still have a gut feeling, now that the Warriors have made basically everyone available, that Kerr will call them up and try to snag Randolph. I don't even think the Warriors really care so much if they can re-sign Stoudemire.

Perhaps Stoudemire for Monta Ellis, Anthony Randolph, and Brendan Wright?

Normally, I'd rather have Biedrins than Ellis, but I know they're looking to unload Ellis, and we'd already have Frye and Randolph, so we wouldn't really need another smallish center type player.

Are they looking to offload Monta? I hadn't heard this recently and he has been performing like hell there.

I'd definitely rather see Stoudemire/Lopez for AR/Biedrins/Filler/Pick or something. I don't know that Stoudemire could land us both AR and Monta anyway. JMO though.

I really don't see us making any major trades. I think the team chemistry is at an all time high and that is somewhat of a rare thing these days. So I do not see any "tinkering" with our starters as far as trades, but I wouldn't be surprised if one or two of the bench guys (not Dudley or Barbosa IMO) gets moved. It would have to be most likely for a defensive big I would imagine. Just my opinion....

Think the Magic have any use for Tucker? haha

I do like Gortat, but I can't think of anything realistic there - his contract is bigger than pieces we would send (Lopez, etc), and there's no way in hell they take JRich - they have Air Canada, Air France, Raw Lew, JJ "best shooter ever" Redick, etc. I don't see anything working there.

Amare for Biedrins/Randolph needs to happen. That would brighten our future.

I love Randolph as a player, but I worry about having two extremely athletic point-forwards with questionable motors on the same team. Earl Clark is basically the Anthony Randolph of last year's draft.

Posted this in the around the NBA thread before for all those that didn't see it, looks like Randolph is on the block, this is from yahoo. Wonder if the Amare trade talks will heat up again?

Warriors’ Randolph on block again

For two seasons, the Warriors have had an odd time with Anthony Randolph(notes). Sometimes, they’re in love with his sheer athletic ability in that 7-foot frame and considered him untouchable. As a rookie, they dangled him in deals, too. Well, it’s happening again. Several NBA teams say Golden State officials have offered Randolph in trade discussions, but as one Eastern Conference executive said: “I think all of their roster could be had.”

Says one Western official: “The Warriors are willing to do anything and everything.”

Randolph is 20 years old and blessed with terrific talent, but his staying power and maturity have frustrated Golden State officials. It appears they’re willing to cash his potential for more mature assets. After destroying the summer league in Vegas, Randolph has averaged 11.1 points in 21.8 minutes per night for the Warriors.

Even with his patriarch, Keith Smart, substituting for an ill Don Nelson, Randolph’s productivity hasn’t improved. Still, he’s so young, so gifted, it’s a move that would come with a great deal of long-term risk.

For all the craziness Monta has brought to their organisation, I think it would be suicidal to send off the only player on their team that's actually playing at an "All-Star" level. He's pretty much carried the team by himself. I don't think they will ship him off unless there's a deal where they are the clear winner.

I'd do that STAT/Rolo for AR/Biedrins/fillers/pick deal

Thinking more about it, I guess GSW would hesitate to take on STAT - because they are not contending this season, and he would most likely bolt out of that trap as soon as he could.

How about STAT/tucker for AR/Beans/Azubuike/ 2nd GS round

While we're at it, we should try save curry too
STAT/2nd rounder for AR/Beans/Curry

I'm not worried about AR's motor because the kid has good work ethic. The maturity issues are understandable because of all the mind games he's been put through. He's still inconsistent and his IQ is shaky but the guy is still really young.

GS is desperate for a "mature" forward (edit: Nelly would orgasm if he got STAT). Realistically, any big name they traded for (boozer/bosh/stat) would try to bolt at the next opportunity.

I think at this point, GS is more interested in shaking up their roster than acquiring pieces that make sense. I think they'd trade for Amare because he'd provide a temporary boost in sales/excitement until the team can be sold. It might actually be a boon for them that he could opt out or let his contract expire, so the new owner would have more flexibility.

Most warrior fans might like the trade if it signaled Cohan selling the team.

AR and Clark are redundant. Clark is a lot bigger and stronger, I would like to give him a shot before trading for Randolph. Unless, you plan on playing Randolph at the 4 and Clark at the 3 and Beans at the 5. But I need a lot more for Amare with the way Randolph is playing. I think Monta and Randolph for Amare wouldn't be that bad of a deal for either team. We are getting robbed with an Amare for Beans and Randolph deal.

I wonder if Coro has any scoop on whether or not Kerr is calling up the Warriors, given that everyone is on the block now?

I actually think the Warriors might be the only team that would max him out and this Amare signs an extension.

Return to Phoenix Suns
