Start Rolo, Channing Chucks off Bench

Post#1 » by Austin » Tue Dec 15, 2009 9:28 pm

What do you think about swapping Rolo and Frye for starting purposes. Rolo is a defensive/rebounding emphasis that would benefit with the starting 5. They could easily draw plays up for Channing to be the #1 or #2 (behind LB) option when the reserves are in. Dragic or LB could handle a pick & pop to Frye, and his offense could definitely be used while the starters are resting. If RoLo gets in foul trouble, bring Frye in early & get him some minutes with starters anyway. It might improve our rebounding numbers, and bench points at the same time. What do you guys think?

He'd probably get two or three fouls in the first 5 minutes and have to be sent back to the bench anyway

Yeah, he's not a starting center right now, but with the time, he may develop; you never know.

I'd rather start Lou over Lopez at this point. At least he wouldn't slow the team down with fouls.

The Suns thrive when they can start hot. Lopez would kill the pace.

I'd love to have have mobile defensive center that mans the paint and rebounds next to Amare and bring Frye off the bench, but RoLo is not the answer.

He isn't a good defender. Good shot blocker yeah, but he lacks defensive fundamentals. As for rebounding, he does a good job on the offensive glass, but he's also a pathetic defensive rebounder.

when FroLo came in tonight, bender said he had had 8 fouls in the last 8min23sec on the court.
So, sure, start him - he won't be out there long

He probably would but at least he'd grab rebounds.

On a bright note... Rolo got his 1st assist of the season tonight.

I'm not sure if maybe I wasn't paying attention- but I didn't even really see much of RoLo tonight. Over the past few sightings- he's really shown how out of place he is. Every time he touches the ball, I cringe. I would much rather see Collins get his minutes. Fry has been a blessing in the starting rotation and there's no reason to mess with that right now.

I like the current SL. It's really the offensively efficient unit while the second unit is much more defensive minded. It works. Collins has really impressed every time I've seen him.

I have to say that if we are gonna promote anyone it should be Dudley or Lou, not RoLo. Don't see the point of promoting someone who has played all of 1 decent game. Let him prove himself on even a semi-consistent basis then we'll talk!

Frye's doing alright tho. Considering our record I don't really see a need to change things up too much to be quite honest. I just think if Frye's jumper isn't working he should be replaced pretty early by Lou/Dud and then start him in the 2nd qtr and take it from there.

I think if Frye's shot is dropping then he's the best person to go with in our system. Tonight was a perfect example of that. I think him and Dragic dropping 3s was the difference.

I still believe Rolo can be a good defensive player but quite frankly, I think he's playing in the wrong system. Lopez could be a much better defensive player if he was on a team that played more man on man defense. A lot of the fouls Rolo picks up is from being late on the switch on the help defense. I don't think he's got a high enough basketball IQ to play great team D, but if he played in a system with better perimeter defenders then he wouldn't have to make the switch as often and only have to worry about the players in the post. Beginning his career in Phoenix certainly doesn't help his defensive development either.

Even if we put him in the starting line up, I don't think he'll have a big enough effect defensively to really make a difference. Offensively he's a non-factor, so if he's only going to be in the starting lineup to pick up quick fouls then we might as well have Frye instead since he gives us some offensive production at least.

New idea... Start Lou for away games so he can get his double double like in Denver, start Frye at home where he can go off from behind the arc... LOL

Can you imagine Lou and David Lee on the same team?

anyway, count me in - I'd rather start Lou than RoLo and bring Collins in before him as well.
But I like Frye at the 5 - he's starting to mix it up more, driving and putting the ball on the floor. He's getting after some boards, too, and playing defense. That will never be a huge part of his game but he's been a lot less one-dimensional.
We could often use Lou in the frontline with Frye and Stat - gives us boards and defense and size

But yeah - I'd rather see Lou in the middle than Sideshow.

Am I just slow or something, because I really think the jury's in on Lopez

Lopez has been a bit surprising to me so far into the season. He hasn't done anything super spectacular but I honestly didn't think he would come in and contribute anyways. I had low standards (really low), and I'm starting to like the kid more. He's a big body, who fouls people hard, for some reason I thought he was skinnier and would get dunked on more.
No we shouldn't start him though. He needs to develop some more.

Return to Phoenix Suns
