You just know that Kerr and Sarver are loving Stoudemire's return to "form". They still dont intend to sign him on a max contract, or extend him at his requested salary. So... their options for trade partners are becomming wider and the trade packages are getting better... win win.

heheh

for fantasy leaguers, they'd rather have Frye than Amare because of the numbers. 8-)

Great game. This is why we need to sign him to max!

What exactly does a MAX contract consist of? 18mil per? 20? 22? 25???

In Amare's case, it'd be starting with about 17 mil and then 12% raise each year, for a total of 5 years. So, 17, 19, 21, 23, 25, or 22 per. But recently, TD and KG all accepted a little less, something like 19-20 per. Only Kobe, Arenas, and R. Lewis got the true max in this range, I believe.

The maximum amount of money a player can sign for is contingent on the number of years that player has played and the total of the salary cap. The maximum salary of a player with 6 or fewer years of experience is $9,000,000 or 25% of the total salary cap (2009-10: $14,472,500). For a player with 7–9 years of experience, the maximum is $11,000,000 or 30% of the cap (2009-10: $17,310,000), and for a player with 10+ years of experience, the maximum is $14,000,000 or 35% of the cap (2008-2009: $20,195,000)

Since he's been in the league for 7-9 years, his starting salary for a max contract would be $17.31 mil with annual rises of X% (I don't remember the percentage).

Let me know if I'm wrong because I'm sure I have some specifics incorrect.

Wow that's some serious $. I wonder if he'd except 17-18 mil after he figures out no team will give him 20 per in this economy?

I tihnk the annual rises are like 10-15% as well.

10% for outside FA and 12% for team's own FA, I believe. Maybe it's 8% and 10% respectively?

For NBA players, they always say it's about "respect". Money = Respect. :)
Suns definitely could use TD and KG as example to persuade Amare to accept a little less than max. In his current form without injury concerns, he will get max offer from someone. Rashard freaking Lewis even got one! Not to mention Redd, Ray Allen etc.
