NEW YORK – Mark McGwire's voice repeatedly cracked with emotion during a telephone interview with The Associated Press as he recounted telling his wife, parents and son that he had used steroids.

His voice breaking, McGwire says, "It's the first time they've ever heard me, you know, talk about this. I hid it from everybody."

During a 20-minute phone call Monday, McGwire says he called commissioner Bud Selig and Cardinals manager Tony La Russa earlier in the day to personally apologize.

McGwire says that when he used steroids, he never imagined he would have to talk about it to national media.

Of course he was juiced, just as Bonds and Sosa were juiced. You don't obtain the bulk and bat speed like they did overnight without "aids."

Louis Gonzalez probably was also but he helped bring a championship to the Diamondbacks so I'm not complaining

Bud Selig is the real crook here... sure, these guys like McGwire, Palmero, Bonds, Clemens, etc juiced up... but it was all done under the 'conveniently looking the other way' eye of GD Selig. He sacrificed the over all integrity of the game to increase ratings, and walks off untarnished. No F-n way you could remain oblivious of what was going on during those sick HR yrs.

I have not followed baseball since the strike.... when the prima donnas led by George Brett invaded Kiawah Island (I was working there) for 2 weeks of golf and all around assholiness. There was 20+ dudes from the Royals and Mets and it was flat out disgusting. Brett especially. I scratched my balls and fingered his sandwich.... thats how much of a jerk he was.

do you realy think that nba players are clean?? come on now, look at dwight howard, this guy is what - 23 years old? he lifts like 250 pounds and has a bizeps as big as my f*******ing head ! all nature? come on - i´m into bodybuilding for ten years and we all know what is possible and what not.

btw. you can´t play every second night on this high level without any steroids in youre food.

look at greg oden - if i wouldn´t know better i would say he looks like 35 years, and how old is he? 21??
the good thing about is that everybody in pro sports ( nba, mlb, nfl ) is using it so you have a challenge who does it best... haha
