Kevin Martin, eh?

Post#1 » by Itmotep » Wed Jan 13, 2010 4:13 pm

Well, now the Suns have officially been linked to Kevin Martin and the Kings are looking for an open court type player....JRich, eh, eh? 8-)

I cant use trade checker at work so does a JRich+Rolo deal work for Kmart or what? :-?

Martin only earns 9.68M according to espn trade machine...we might even take up an expiring contract :)

I thought it said a frontcourt addition in the wiretap. Where did you get an open court player?

Well it looks like we would have to be offering at least one of JRich/Barbs/Nash/Amar'e.

I can't see SAC wanting to take on JRich for Kevin Martin - JRich has a shorter contract but its not like he's expiring. ]

Barbs maybe, but I doubt it considering they have Tyreke Evans.

Nash - yikes, plus I feel he is near untouchable, but this would make more sense than the above because
Dragic/Barbs
Kevin Martin/Barbs
Hill/Duds
Amar'e/Lou
Chucking Frye/SlowLo
and maybe keep Hart - or is he gone already?

Amar'e, could make sense if they threw in Hilton Armstrong or Hawes - or of course Jason Thompson if we threw in Lopez or something but that's a reach.\
Nash
Martin
Hill
either Thompson or Armstrong/Hawes

I loathe Kevin Martins shot, but it goes in so I can't hate him too much.

Richardson for Martin + Hilton Armstrong works, plus Armstrong is a better big then RoLo so we could use him right away and he is a 2.8 million dollar expiring.

Another option is Richardson and RoLo for Martin and Kenny Thomas, who is an 8.7 million dollar expiring.

It would have to be

Richardson and a crackpipe for the Maloofs
for Martin/Armstrong

Eh I consider JRich to be a Small Forward as well as a SG...Therefor making him a front court and open court player imo.

Wouldn't be against the trade but would this trade really improve us this much? Because Martin can't play any defense right? I just don't see how Martin would be a huge step over barbosa or jrich.

J-Rich for Martin. Too good to be true.

It meant PF/C since the Kings already have a glut of wings (Casspi/Nocioni/Greene/Garcia).

I was looking at a deal for Kevin Martin a few days ago, the best scenario for the Suns would be Jason Richardson and Robin Lopez for Kevin Martin and Kenny Thomas, however that scenario is also the most unlikely for the Kings as they lose an expiring contract. But on the other hand, they do lose a longer contract that Martin has for a shorter one in Jason Richardson, and maybe they are trying to covet players in the 2011 free agency instead of 2010.
Another trade scenario is Jason Richardson and Leandro Barbosa for Kevin Martin and Beno Udrih. Goran has been playing more significant minutes, so he could play something of a combo guard at the two while Beno backs up Nash. However, it says the Kings are looking for some frontcourt players. So I think any trade would have to involve the departure of Robin Lopez.
I'd take Martin over J-Rich, but that isn't much of an upgrade.

KMart doesn't play D, but either do we, so I guess he'll fit in fine. He can't be no worse than JRich defensively and his offense is miles ahead of JRich's so I'd welcome a trade for him.

Not the number guy on my trade-for list, but if Kings are dumb enough to take JRich then heck, throw them some cash while we're at it.

Kevin Martin is pretty one-dimensional. It appears he has to have the ball in his hands in order to be effective. A good thing about that however is it relieves Nash of having to create for EVERYONE.

I doubt they want Jay Rich, maybe it's something like Barbosa + Clark?

JRich for Kmart and Rodriguez works, so does JR for Kmart, Green and Hawes.

King's salaries make it tough to find the other piece, that they wouldn't want to keep.

Once upon a time I would have loved to see Rodriguez here - now, not as much. I think we do it if they give us a decent big.

Obviously in certain trades not every party gets equal value. Suns traded Shaq for nothing is an example. Did that trade for pure salary dump.
The Kings are looking to trade Martin because he is locked in for four years, moving him for Jason Richardson gives them flexibility for the future. Even if the Kings get someone like Tracy McGrady for Kevin Martin, Kenny Thomas, and Andres Nocioni, the Kings would then have a huge expiring for THIS summer, yet what free agent would want to go there with such a young nucleus of players? I'm sure the high-caliber players wouldn't want to be there as that wouldn't be the best choice to win a championship. Giving the young players of the Kings roster another year to grow would be more appealing.

I swear, some of you guys only think of short term problems teams face. The Kings aren't going anywhere this season with any type of trade with Kevin Martin (or keeping him), and they're front office knows it. They are looking for a longer term solution.

Martin's 26 years old, how is that NOT a longterm solution? Second, the Kings already said they don't want "salary flexibility", so out that goes.

Guys, come on. Why would the Kings want Jason Richardson for Kevin Martin?

They both play the same position. Kevin Martin costs less and is arguably the better player. The main reason they'd trade KMart is because they don't believe Tyreke is a real point, so they'd be clearing out a glut at the 2.

Yes, JRich's contract is a little more flexible, length-wise, but I'm sure the Kings could do much better.

I think they'd be interested in a trade like what ESPN's Hollinger suggested: KMart and Sergio Rodriguez for Barbosa, Clark, and Dragic.
