Knowing what we know now... (Poll)

Post#1 » by DirtyDez » Sun Jan 17, 2010 6:03 am

Bottom line is Steph Curry was the reason we wanted that deal. After watching him play for a few months it's obvious the kid has tons of talent and could potentially be a star player in this league for many years. Now breaking down the other players in that deal our lineup would've looked something like this imo:

PG: Nash, Curry, Dragic
SG: J-Rich, Belinelli, Barbosa
SF: Hill, Dudley, Clark
PF: Wright, Lou
C: Beadrins, Lopez

Pros: Younger team, better defensively, potential franchise player (Curry), lower payroll, J-Rich expendable and earlier start in rebuilding.

Cons: Unproven players, zero low-post scoring, questionable PF of the future, low ticket sales, not a playoff team, build up of guards, unhappy Nash, stunt growth of Dragic, unexciting team, the Amare situation, payroll problems, being a lottery team without a draft pick and being at least 2 or 3 years away from making the playoffs.

-- In my opinion i don't think getting Curry is worth all that. I also don't think we sign Fyre (which is good or bad). What do you think? Are you satisfied with a 7th or 8th seed this year or do you think we should've started rebuilding?

I opt for option #3, trade Amare to another team, besides Golden State

Not that GS one, I hoped for the one that was rumored last year around this time. Weren't they offering Monta Ellis, Turiaf and some fillers? That was much better than the draft day one.

I don't see Nash and Monta playing well together. I think we should've made the deal last year at the deadline when they were offering Randolph. He's developing slowly but dominates the paint, rebound, runs the floor and would score more with Nash. Plus he's cheap.

As much as I like Randolph I would still put him second behind Monta. Ellis is a top 5 player in the league and if the Suns had the chance to get him it would be a no brainer to trade Nash for draft picks and/or young talent and build around Ellis. You could sign 12 d-league guys and have them play next to Ellis and he would still be able to put up crazy numbers, that's what's great about him.

+1
I don't see Monta as being the right fit for our team. Idk if I would do the draft-day trade but I wouldn't mind any trade that gets us AR.

Amare is one of two players we can count on our team to play every night day in and day out... Stat and Nash ftw. Trade them, and the Suns = done.
The Phoenix Suns - 54-28. Projected Record: 54-28 3rd Seed

The Phoenix Suns - 2010-2011 Projected Record: 30-52 3rd lottery pick.

Open your eyes for Nash/JRich for Ellis/Maggette/Modrow trade GS would have done instead of the Amare trade.
1. we'd have a much younger team than any with Nash
2. Amare/Ellis is gonna dominate the league for multiple championship no Nash team could ever get us.

I wasn't real high on Curry and I still ain't but the deal breaker for me was Randolph. I would've said no if we didn't get a potential star post player in return for Amare.

Besides, we are too guard heavy if we made that trade. Not enough minutes for Curry and Dragic and we also have no front court scoring.

Had the trade gone through, Kerr'd have traded Nash to Blazers or NY to give Curry enough court time to develop. Nash wouldn't have developed as well under the shadow of Kidd and KJ on the Suns back then.

Yup, Ellis is one heck of a player. Those 4.2 turnovers per game look really attractive.
