Amar'e poor rebounder
Is Amar'e a poor rebounder or is it the system not doing him any favors?
I was under the impression he was a 20-10 guy, but looking at his stats it seems i was wrong>?

Re: Amar'e poor rebounder
To be honest, I've only realised that he was a poor rebounder this season. He wasn't ever an outstanding rebound, hence why he hasn't gotten a max contract from us. Had he been a 20-10, we might have considered giving him a max contract.

He's never been a good rebounder.

That's why he isn't a Max Contract type player.

The problem is he never wants to. No heart on defense or boards.

He doesn't give effort to grab rebounds. I guess the several injuries hurt his game as well.

Clangus I know you are a Oklahoma City Thunder fan so why are you hanging around the Suns board is it so you can gloat about your team having our first round draft pick. Are you hoping we continue to lose so you have a better pick So why exactly do you care about how the Suns are playing all of the sudden?

Why does it matter its a board for people to share opinions. Its a section for susn discussion not suns fans.

For a number a reasons. Some as selfish as you stated, some not so much.
I'll list a few, even though I dont feel that i need to defend myself.
- I like The Suns player and fan base. And I respect thier opinions on things i have less understanding about. Amare is apparently available, and i am trying to assertain for my own curiosity what his value might be. Other teams fans tend to over-rate thier talent and players, but as a rule I believe Suns posters generally are realistic about it. Hence I came here to find out more.
- I can empathise with your fanbase because, getting a glimmer of hope about a team turnaround and a playoff birth, only to have the wheel fall off is difficult. I think it's harder to go through that than it is to lose all the time. Because when your team sucks (like my team last year) you dont expect wins, so when you lose it isn't as hard. It would be esp. hard with 2 all-stars on the team too IMO.
- An Amare trade could drastically change the lanscape in the league depending on where he goes. THAT is particularly fascinating to me.
- I Like to check in on some boards who I think thier fan bases are reasonable. Generally I go to the Bulls board and sometimes the T-Wolves Board, NEVER the Celtics or Raptors of LAkers boards for obious reasons.
- the Thunder board is Fooking dead - always is.
- I like to have expand my knowledge on players I don't get to see as often as my Thunder.
I'm sorry if you thought it was Gloating. And I as glad as I am that we have your pick, I don't know how many more draft picks we actually need, so i am not as sexed up about a mid teens pick as some others might be.

Re: Amar'e poor rebounder
Most great of the great rebounding bigs were already very good rebounders in college so they were already good rebounders heading into the NBA. Amare was never a real polished rebounder and coming into the SSOL system straight out of high school didn't do him any favors either.
However, I'm convinced, had he been drafted by a team with a strict coach (Pops or Sloan etc), they would've beat his ass into a rebounding machine. I mean, it's not that hard to imagine considering he has all the physical tools, it's really his mindset.
edit: Clangus, as long as you behave, you are always welcome on our boards.

I think for most of us, anyone who loves the game and wants to talk about, Suns-centrically, is welcome. if you're smart, even better. If you're smart and funny, we''ll set you up with our sister
We're all impressed with what a nice job your FO has done building the Thunder

Re: Amar'e poor rebounder
+1 to respect for the Thunder. Kevin Durant may not be a hella-wicked closer yet, but he's a phenomenal scorer and has made big strides in pretty much every area of his game. Good management, good coaching, interesting young talent...
The only thing bad I have to say about them is that "them bastards should be in Seattle," but that's it. I hope they do really well this year.

Thanks guys, I hope your season get back on track. I have no idea if a re-build, a major trade or a few minor ones is going to be the best way to go. But the NBA is Better with Nash and Co in the playoffs!

Amare is not a "natural" rebounder like Barkley or even our Lou Amundson. But he is capable of rebounding well with attentions and concentration and energy, which he often doesn't show enough of.

Re: Amar'e poor rebounder
I've been watching a couple of Suns games, and noticed why he doesn't rebound at all
1. He doesn't get to the right positions. It is not impossible to predict which position will the ball end up in.
2. Doesn't box out at all, which is the main reason why he is not grabbing enough rebounds. Watch Dejuan Blair, he might have a good sense for grabbing rebounds, but without boxing out, he isn't going to grab more than 2 or 3 a game. So boxing out is a key factor.
3. Always allow match up to enter the paint. As a matter of fact, he doesn't seem to commit on defense nor attempt to keep post players away from the paint. So good post players matching up against him end up deep in the paint, and they either manage to make the shot or the ball bounces back to them.
4. Didn't show commitment at all. I've seen countless times where he managed to "grab a rebound" simply because he was tall and the ball bounced right to him. He hardly jumped at all.

--- Amar'e has just about zero fundamentals as regards defense and rebounding. I suppose it's the double whammy of being a ridiculously athletic specimen who could score at will, then coming straight from HS to the pros, where he received no teaching in those areas - at least, that we know of.
I think he does try - he just has zero instincts and knows very little. he works harder than he has to because he does it wrong. Simply getting position and boxing out would help a lot but how often does he do it?
Wasn't Cartwright brought in for that reason?
