The way I view Nash's "apparent" attitude in certain games is like this:
I regularly play pick-up basketball with a few guys from work. I'm not great, but I'm one of the better regulars. Anyways, I know I can score more than half my teams points but what is usually more of a challenge (and better for the team aspect of the group) is if I don't. If I distribute, set picks, rebound and run the floor and let the other guys get into a rythm, Life is easier all around.
I feel like that is always Nash's objective. Some will argue that he can't play defense, well God may not have given him the lateral quickness of a Paul or Williams, but I do believe he tries. To top it off, he seems the most dejected when OTHERS are not playing good basketball. When he isn't playing well he is clearly mad at himself. And trust me, Nash is one of the most brilliant basketball minds in the NBA right now... he knows when something is his fault, you can see it written on his face.
People point out that it's not good when Nash has to score 25+... I would tell you that is the REACTION TO the poor play of others, not the CAUSE OF. When Nash goes off in the 4th, when he starts hitting those amazing pull-up threes in transition, he's trying to get his team back into it... he's not "padding" his stats.
The self-awareness, self-sacrifice and team oriented leadership are invaluable things that Dragic is absorbing right now. You can't put a price on that kind of an education. Trust me.
