How is Amare's defense?
Hey man, many Knicks fans feel that Lee plays no D and this makes him very wack.
How do you guys see Amare's D?? I hear things, many people say he's wack too.
Point is, if Amare plays no D, and Lee plays no D, and Amare is going for a max contract, then Lee should get a max deal too.
Now, I don't think either of them are max guys. But what's the deal??

Re: How is Amare's defense?
I haven't really watched Lee that much and I don't think it's that Lee doesn't try to play D but rather he is undersized at the PF position versus some of the bigger PF's and has a hard time guarding them.
Amare on the other hand gets into foul trouble be reaching in for silly fouls and hasn't learned how to position himself on post D.
Getting in foul trouble makes him play hesitantly for fear of getting into foul trouble.

Re: How is Amare's defense?
Dude...Lee is a glorified Lou Amundson
Give Amundson between 35-40 minutes per game and he can pull down just as many rebounds and probably score in double digits.
Amundson at the vets minimum > Lee at 10M +
Now Amare on the otherhand is in an interesting situation, he's not a superstar that can carry a team but than again he's not a role player either. Amare would make a good second or third option on any contending team already with a major superstar, he would be a difference maker.

Re: How is Amare's defense?
Lou Amundson? You think Lou Amundson can average 20/11? Get out of town. David Lee is one of the best offensive players in the league. He can score in a bunch of nifty ways and he's stupid efficient. I kind of think that Lee would be a great third option on a winning team.
So it seems that you guys feel the same way we do about their respective D. Amare isn't worth the max, he's just a high-flying David Lee, really.
David Lee, he's undersized at center, sure. But if you watch these games, a lot of times he's just chilling there, not even attempting to do anything at all. It's strange to see. It's like he doesn't want to waste the energy.

This.
Also sometimes Amare actuallyx hinders other people from playing defense for example many times while "defending" the pnr Amare would bump his own teammate enabling the offensive player to penetrate without defense.

D-Lee is a monster on the boards. Amare grabs the ball when it bounces directly to him. As for defense i've heard they're both terrible.

Never said he could average 20-11, he probably can score 10-12 if he got 35-40 minutes per game and also grab the same amount or even more rebounds, not to mention Amundson is the better shot blocker. So would that make Amundson worth 10M +? What I'm getting at is Amare is a game changer while guys like Amundson and Lee are hustle players.

Re: How is Amare's defense?
Amare's defense is good. He's been getting 10+ RBs for like 6 or 7 games now.
Amundson getting 10ppg while playing 40mpg is a joke.

Not really, he averages 7.5ppg in games when he gets 20 minutes or more so playing in the same amount of time Lee does he could get more than 10-12 ppg. He also averages 6 boards in those games along with 1.8 blocks. I'd say he'd be averaging about 14 and 9 with 2+ blocks a game which are very good numbers.

i think lou could easily average any where from 12 to 15 a game if he played 30 to 35 min, hes get that on strictly putbacks haha
and amares defense is far from good, horrible help defender, never fights for postition, and just a low bball iq when it comes to defense

Re: How is Amare's defense?
Lou is nowhere near Lee, lets leave it at that.
Lee isnt that bad at defense, hes just a little undesized and doesnt have great leaping ability or speed to make up for it. I remember when he got drafted, everyone booed him, now hes the best player on that roster.
Amare is also a bit undersized, but he has the speed and leaping ability unlike Lee. He isnt as smart of a player though so he doesnt know how to utilize his athleticism and tends to get into foul trouble for not being patient enough. With the right coaching, he could be a great defender, but not so much at this point. If he doesnt get smarter on defense, he will be an atrocious player when he ages.

How is 6'10 245 undersized for a power forward?
Anyways, Amare should be one of the better shot blockers in the league if he'd put in the effort to learn how to time shots. I get that he has had major injuries but he still has a ton of athleticism. Also even if he is "undersized" look at the whole Houston Rockets team. Chuck Hayes who is a 6'6 forward/center plays better D than Amare. Although I do have to say that he never had a coach that emphasized defense as much as they should. D'Antoni's philosophy was Cover Your A$$ and Gentry kind of says just play D in certain situations for a short period of time. Neither is a good.

He is listed at 6'9'', id say him and Amare are more like 6'8''. I consider that undersized if you cant fly off the ground

I agree that Lee is undersized but not Amare. Everywhere I've seen Amare is 6'10 245-250 and there is no way he is only an inch taller than Dudley(who is 6'7). Also most starting power forwards are 6'9-6'10. So I don't consider him to be undersized and Amare has very good leaping ability for a guy his size. In fact I think Josh Smith is the only power forward with a better vertical then Stat.
