Does Robert Sarver Need To Go?

Post#1 » by Risensun » Sun Feb 14, 2010 10:04 am

There has always been and will continue to be strong feeling one way or the other towards the Sun's majority owner Robert Sarver. Some feel that he robbed Phoenix of several championship opportunities during his tenure here by trading away players and draft picks for expirings or cash. Others feel that he was justified in his pursuit of cutting costs.

What are your thoughts and how does his moves compare to other owners? Good for Phoenix or bad for Phoenix? Greedy Businessman or simply someone with limited funds? Bastard or local hero? Should he be here for the long run or does he need to go? I look forward to hearing everyone's opinion on the topic.

/shrug

He never really cost us a championship. Even if we had drafted Iggy/Rondo/Deng/whoever, Dantoni would never have played them. Just go to the Knicks board if you have forgotten about his 7 man rotations. I think Dantoni damaged our championship chances more than anyone else, but that is an argument for another thread. The KT trade was awful, but the damage is more to our rebuilding effort than our championship run. Sarver just gets cheap at the wrong times...he HAS spent a lot of money the last few years, but he got cheap right before he had spent quite enough. Still, if he forces this Cavs trade just to save money, it will definitely be a very dark mark against him. I will reserve judgment till then.

Uh, yes. He's a **** who's ruined this team. Lose money? Fine. Can't support the team? Get the HELL out.

I know its a free market, but why own a team when you are always struggling to cut money off it. Sarver reminds me of the people that bought houses they couldn't afford a few years back, now they are constantly selling everything to keep afloat. If he is so concerned its time to dump it.

Having a budget control over the team makes sense, but when you start convincing your GM to make stupid trades, that's another story
You see, a good budget control can reduce waste of money and still have players which fit the system (Spurs in the last few years, duh), but man, Sarver is just screwing the team up

I'm surprised that PHX isn't as "good" as that team in LA yet
You know, the team that plays in Staples Centre  .
Not the one with the yellow and purple, but the one with the blue and red

what the hell do you think? he's losing money from his personal business which is now destroying the fleshy piece of scar tissue that is over my heart that allowed me to fully believe in the team I love and support till the end. I hate Robert Sarver. He killed our suns. Steve Kerr had a hand in it to a degree and Mike D'antoni did too but Robert Sarver ruined our team. GET THE HELL AWAY SARVER WE ALL HATE YOU

Find an owner that is willing to spend to make our team ultra-competitive.

Colangelo should have tried to package both the DBacks and Suns to Art Moreno. I don't know if he was intrested in the Suns but I can dream.

If this Amare deal to Cavs goes down, Sarver can get life imprisonment in a maximum security prison for all I care.

It would be nice but I'm going to wait until it actually happens before I start complaining...

Yes, we need to push him out the door. Things we can do include, not going to games, not watching games or picketing.

Interesting views so far guys. It seems that most Phoenix fans just don't like Robert Sarver at all. It would also be neat to have some posts from other teams on how they think he ranks as a majority owner.

BTW How much does everyone feel Sarver is pushing an Amare Stoudemire trade?

I've never liked him. People say he isn't cheap, well we were one role player away(backup pg) from a possible championship. You have to spend money to make money. I thought a businessman would realize that.

He spent plenty of money, i believe he's been paying the luxury tax for years. He just didn't spend it wisely.
