I want Rudy on the Suns so badly. It sounds like he's unhappy in Portland and is talking to Real Madrid (wiretap) because of his inconsistent playing time, etc. I say we sign him next season and tell him we will give him the minutes and the green light out on the court. Then we trade JRich, who will then be an expiring, either by himself or along with Amar'e to bolster the remaining positions. I just think Rudy's game would blossom in Phoenix and give him more of the Euro feel as well...we can probably offer at least as much as Real Madrid is offering monetarily too. We can use our MLE, or do a sign-and-trade with Portland.
Just a quick glance
Rudy FernandezGuard, 6'6"
24 years old
Averaging 10 pts, 3 rebs, 2 ast, 1 steal in 2 seasons (24 minutes/game) with Portland
Rich history in Spain with performance and awards, obviously

I said Rudy was unhappy in Portland in the beginning of the season. I think the Suns could absolutely sign him to a mid level type contract, though I think that would be a little high priced for him.
I could see Sarver being interested in another foreign player though, so realistically if Grant Hill retires or the Suns make another bogus trade over the off-season and unload Jason Richardson or something, I could an offer being made.

If we can make this happen I'm all for it. Rudy is an excellent player and deserves more playing time on another team. He's is a deadly 3 point shooter and every team needs a player like him.

Can't you use your MLE on a contract that isn't the full value of the MLE? Because I agree that full MLE would definitely be a bit pricey for him...

maybe this is his destiny.

this is where he should have been to begin with, so yeah. MLE is a bit expensive for him, I agree. But it might look like a bargain if he blossoms here and I think he would.
He and Dragic would be nice together

I've wanted Rudy in Phoenix for ages. Last off-season when they were talking about bringing Hedo to the Blazers and Rudy complained about losing minutes to him, I was the first guy to raise my hands about bringing him to Phoenix.
He could provide depth for relatively cheap.

And once again, we only took him because that is who Portland wanted.

Yeah I agree. But nonetheless I would still want him in Phoenix. He has good basketball IQ, has good handles, and an overall good player. He lacks strength and his defense is questionable, he jacks up a few too many shots as well occasionally.
However, I think we'd have a very versatile backcourt if the Suns had Nash, Rudy, Barbosa, and Dragic. Even if the Suns kept Richardson, I could see him sliding over to the three if Grant Hill retires. Or the Suns could make another crap trade offloading Richardson for nothing.

I'm not going by NBA performance alone which apparently you are, I am looking at his tenure in Spain. And yes, I do compare that because he has shown that he can port that game over to the NBA level. He just needs to be in a more perimiter-based and quicker system.

He thrived in spain because he was in a system that fit him perfectly. Portland is not the right place for him, and he wants to go back overseas. While he would be a great fit here, I really cant see how he would get here. Just a pipedream.

If the Suns could make Shaq an all star, Grant Hill play 82 games, and make Frye a MIP candidate, I'm sure they could make Rudy a 6MOY.
Though the fact that we all want this makes me think it'll never happen.

I dont have much respect for guys that cry like little babies about playing time and talk about going back to spain. Its like, "mommy, they are too big and are better than me, I want to come home and play in the lower league".

Not exactly, the suns scouts liked him a lot, but kerr wanted tucker because he played D in college. Bad decision of course. I would not mind him here. He is a nice player, kind of like barbosa. gets on the court and chucks shots and gets abbused by bigger and stronger guards. I dont think he is the answer to the future, and I dread the thought of a backcourt of Dragic and Rudy.

Top 5 lottery, here we come.

Please. People in this thread are unwilling to give him the MLE, and I'm willing to bet he could get something around that amount (Josh Childress-esque) in Europe. Further, he would get to play in his home country. Do we similarly criticize guys like Channing Frye, who would rather play in Phoenix because that's where he grew up?
