Jackson is a Hypocrite

Phil Jackson once again was critical of the NBA's loophole that allowed Cleveland to deal away Zyrunas Ilgauskas for Antawn Jamison.

What about the unfair loophole that allowed the Lakers to acquire Pau Gasol? That lookhole just goes against the spirit and purpose of the entire CBA to put the Lakers in an unfair advantage over other teams. (I'm talking about using retired Aaron McKie to make the numbers work)

Okay, I am off my soapbox.

Well at least the Lakers didn't trade Kwame for Pau AND then Kwame came back to them (actually I might have preferred if he did).

^^I'm talking about the signing retired players solely to make the trade numbers work.

They are stupid rules that don't make a lot of sense. But I do agree that Jackson is being somewhat hypocritical. Both situations are similar.

I don't think he is being hypocritical because he didn't get back any of the players he traded away. This buyout and being resigned by the original team is utterly ridiculous imo and even more ridiculous when players pretend to be interested in signing with other teams and then claim that the decision to resign with their former team was a "tough" decision.

I think what Mr. Sun means is that the Lakers have had so many "gifts" dropped in their laps like Gasol for Kwame and it's hypocritical for P.Jax to be criticizing other teams when they get "freebies."

But I will have to agree, the rule should be that you cannot sign a guy within a year of trading him away. Because this is no different from having a pre-arranged agreement which is illegal in the NBA. Everybody and their grandmother knew Z was going back and he never had another other teams in consideration. The only difference is that Z didn't blab out to the media like Stackhouse did a season or two back.

I remember when we tried to pick-up Brent Barry when he was traded and bought-out in mid Febuary of 08'. Wish it could've worked out cuz we got Gordan Giricek instead.

Non rotation players Kwame and Crittendon were the only players the Lakers lost off their active roster when they made the deal for Pau. Why would they want either one of those guys back? The trade was a salary dump for Memphis at the time. They are lucky Marc Gasol became a decent player but he was playing in Europe when the trade was made.

these trades where a major player is involved who gets bought out must end.

Big Z is averaging 7 and 5 this year, I would hardly call that "major player" numbers. The whole situation is getting blown out of proportion. Jackson is just mad that the Cavs got better. As has been said, he did the same thing two years ago.

I think this move for the Cavs is more unfair than the Pau Gasol trade.

That was cuban and the mavs, not jackson. LA didnt sign any retired players for the Pau trade to work. They gave them draft picks, expiring kawme and crittendon and rights to marc gasol
